I have been reading the state audits of the school district for the FY ending 2008, 2009, and 2010. I have not found the alleged loss of over million dollars between 2008 (before Dr. Nassar) and June 2010. Where and when did this money disappear so I can research this further?

What about the discrimination that took place while this man was the superintendent?He settled one lawsuit for over 200,000 and has been to court about three others that are still pending... He gave the lady over 200,00 and admitted that he discriminated her.

He has been harrassing the one white school board member that was on the board when he was fired. He went to her place of employment in West Memphis and harrassed her for voting to terminate him..

His attorney has publicly tried to identify him in the papers, while the truth is he doesnt have a chance to win a court case.

His attorney is so stupid he brought stolen personnel files to a school board hearing and the employee was automatically fired for theft.

This man has refused to give back several computers and other school property?

When the final report is out..it will be ugly.

I guess I will have to wait for the 2011 audit(s) to sort this out. I tried checking the school website for info, like board activities, official budgets, etc. but it was out of date. There are some details in your last messages that I wish to consider though.

Regarding the $200000 settlement, the board vote on 28Sept2010 was unanimous, so the board played it role too. In fact according to the minutes the motion was 2nd by Ms. Jackson herself.

Regarding the vote on 19Jan2011 to suspend Dr. Nassar, at that time there were three white board members, not one. In addition, the only female of the three did not vote, but rather abstained. Your claim that she was harassed for her vote confuses me. Even if she did vote to help him, there was already the four votes (out of 7) to suspend.

I will continue to search various public records for the truth...

As I reread my notes on this mess, an unanswered question arose.

If the heart of the matter deals with financial irregularities, why was the official reason for his initial suspension "insubordination"? I would think that financial problems would have been a stronger cause to begin with. The first discussion of money issues did not occur until the 12Apr2011 board meeting--almost three months after Dr. Nassar's dismissal. In addition, if Ms. Smith was involved, why would the board grant her greater access to the bank account in the 8Feb2011 meeting? That motion passed unanimously, including the 2nd by Ms. Jackson.

It is the inconsistency between the public record and the version being told now that is confusing.

Nice try.. RN was terminated because he cussed out a school board member, that is old news. The new discoveries have made everyone realize what was really going on. The district couldnt have survived any longer with the waste of money going on. Checks were hidden from board members and a lot of money shifting went on over the past few years... the audit team just made that clear when they finished the new audit for state.

The information is public, just stop by the district office and they can provide you with any of minutes or legal balances. The computer tech man was getting $70,000 under the RN regime and his salary has been cut in half so that it is actually on a salary schedule like before RN came to town.

The board let him do whatever he wanted. One of its members had a wife who worked as a secretary for RN. She got about $20,000 in overtime last year also... I wonder why the board member let RN do what he wanted? Why did all of the white members who let him do what he wanted for three years resign when the demographics of the board changed? They wont even talk to RN anymore because of what they have learned about his activities.

The white board member was harrassed at work by RN. She didnt want him at her job and didnt invite him to her job. He has some serious issues and everyone knows.

The new superintendent is going in a new direction.

I am aware of the confrontation between Dr. Nassar and Ms. Jackson on 19Jan2011. That was not the only one. The board meeting of 12Oct2010 included a heated exchange regarding an attorney for the board. According to those minutes, executive session was called "due to abusive language and public criticism". The trouble seemed to have been brewing for some time...

The problem I see for the district is that in order to defend themselves, they will have to not only justify the reasons for Dr. Nassar's dismissal, but also the process. It is the 'how' rather than the 'why' that could damage the organization. The board minutes of that period, along with other public records I have read, create some doubts on the mess.

Regarding the financial intrigue: There is nothing I cannot research the money trail until the 2011 annual audit is finished in March 2012.

Dont you think that cussing your boss is a good enough reason to be terminated? A superintendent is an at will employee or they can be released for just about anything cant they? He does have a contract but he can be terminated differently than a teacher. I believe the district board is preparing a counter lawsuit. It should be interesting to see the outcome.

The legislative audit voted unanimously to do an additional audit and is expected to make a determination soon. They had enough evidence that some things were done that were inappropriate to say the least. When you pay your secretaries $50,000 in overtime or give $25,000 raises to more than one person for doing the same job they have always done, something is wrong. Dont you think?

School superintendents are not exactly at-will employees. AR Code 6-17-301 explains how to get rid of one mid-contract. Cussing out a board member is not part of it.(Of course, contract renewal would be unlikely if one cusses out one's boss!) Fiscal distress caused by impropriety is the main reason to fire the superintendent in 6-17-301. I would think that using "insubordination" and not "fiscal fraud" would weaken the district's case with respect to that law. In addition, I have not heard about the district being placed in fiscal distress. That is the key part for 6-17-301 to apply.

To make matters worse, Dr. Nassar's dismissal was finalized 8Feb2011. The 2010 audit was not finished until 9Mar2011. Claims of financial wrongdoing needed that audit as proof. The firing process seemed to have been preemptive in nature. That aspect could hurt the district.

Great information. I am sure RN is thinking the same way. Nobody had to have the audits as proof, everybody in town knew what was going on. One more year with the wild spending and the district would have easily been in financial distress which it got out of before thanks to Charles Jones and all of his hard work coming out of retirement as superintendent. Of course, RN claimed that he got the district out of financial distress and even paid the paper with school funds to publish it. Let the district and their lawyers figure it out.

We finally agree on something!

The hard work of Mr. Jones did save the district from fiscal distress. I would have been hard pressed to attribute that success to Dr. Nassar. But you are also right in this: Let the district and the lawyers figure it out.
