What a sham. The Chapter President said he was not going to comment on the situation until the all the negative stuff is over. What negative is he talking about when the project became corrupt once the funds were received. Mr. Joe Shirley, please fire Allan Begay, Director of Navajo Economic Development and Randy Sells, Director Shiprock RBDO, it is their fault for ill-conceived investments.

Joe Shirley, You need to step down as soon as possible before you get a real negative mark on you.You should be responsible in paying back the loan alone with you cronies.

Gee, I could sure use some free money. Maybe i should approach the navajo nation with a ridiculous business plan, a history of failure, and my hand out and see how much they put into it. I have a great idea for Moose Turd earrings, will the navajo nation give me 20 million dollars to build a moose turd factory on the rez? Maybe I'll expand it with Sheep Turd Necklaces, which i can sell to tourists as a tribal government souveniers. Will they back it with the tribal monies? I hope so, then i can spend it on myself and relatives and then all i have to do is disappear and let the tribe clean up the remaining moose turds.
The poster commenting on the drunk driving deaths was right, Navajos do act like children with no parents, only interested in the sunny side of the street and the immediate wild promises of snakes and coyotes that promise jobs and profits for the tribal government. Sadly the US federal government is doing the same thing, paying people to fail.
I hope your all happy. The 'sovereign' government that you have elected has pissed away YOUR money on golf and personal expenses, pipe dream businesses, and has managed to signally fail in actually bringing real development or business to the rez. If somebody wants to invest their private funds, the tribal government makes them take YEARS to get the necessary approvals, so long that most people wont do it, and if it does work, they[the tribal government] demand so much that external businesses walk away rather than cave into blackmail(Fairchild anybody?). I guess its all power.. and how much money in bribes you are willing to put out.
Welcome to the Third World, where the politicians think they deserve the bribes of a US Senator, but the people still dont have a real alternative to living in a shack. Maybe you will be able to catch a few stray chickens from the egg farm when it gets abandoned (if it is ever built).

What a shame. It seems like someone is responsible for not doing their homework called "due diligence". One begins to wonder, Is the Navajo Nation in the business of bailing out failed companies?$3.5 Million is alot of money that could have been invested much wiser for the Navajo People. This is what happens when you have incompetent individuals with little or no business experience in key positions making investment decisions for the people. The Navajo People deserve professional and experienced individuals with credentials to oversee these investment deals for a higher return of investment and profit margins, not to bail out failure and zero profits. In the meantime, crooks have fled and the Nation is left holding the bag. What a shame.

Ok this is typical tribal stuff. I say let them take all our money. Then finally we might wake up and take initiative. Until then we'll have years and years of the following from our tribal leaders:

* "I'd rather not talk until all this negative (publicity) is over,"
* Neither Shirley nor his spokesman could be reached for comment Tuesday.
* Diné Poultry Products has a mailing address in Bloomfield, but the phone number listed is not in service.
* "It has failed to make any progress."

I agree he needs to step down. He already has many negative marks against him, that's the real reason Mr. Hardeen or Mr. Shirley can't be reached. In the past, Mr. Hardeen would always have a statement ready on behalf of Mr. Shirley.

1. Perhaps, the newly formed Navajo Human Rights Commission needs to conduct a hearing about why the current form of Dene government is hierarchically discriminative in allowing our tribal government to be subordinated (beholden) to a Navajo Nation Council that is always opened to doubt.

2. Start looking into the qualifications of the council delegates that comprise the Navajo Nation Economic Development Committee. Do these people have any character at all? Why does President Shirley protect his weak Economic Division Director, Allan Begay?

I hope they do lose the much money, make the nation open their dang eyes and be responsible for their mistakes. I mean they aren't using the money right anyway, paying for nonsense stuff, eg. Delegate rings, come on. Holding conference at high end places in various cities, geez! I'm Navajo and yes I did say it "Good that they are losing that much money". I guess karma is getting them. NAVAJO NATION spend the money on better stuff than your own fun time!!!

Why not change the Poultry Farm to a Chicken Ranch. Make it legal like in Nevada. At least the Tribe can recuperate some of that money. *LoL*

"Navajo Nation in danger of losing $3.5 million"

Not to worry, it already has decades ago.. and more to lose, if and when Desert Rock becomes reality....We Navajos don't know how to run or take care of anything, other than a fry bread stand.

Honestly It seems this is a problem we have always dealt with. People that have big responsibility Don't Care about their actions. But thats alright though not like the money Would have Really gone to anything useful (Roads, Economy, infrastructure.)

Why don't the Southern Utes have the same problems. Or maybe they do, but we never hear about them. All I see from the folks in Ignacio is steady progress and a willingness to let professional managers handle their money. It seems to be paying off big time for them, as I see lots of private property in Farmington and San Juan County in their name. They're becoming the big dogs in sand and gravel here, their casino is rocking, their housing development is booming, their oil and gas company is thriving.... How does all that happen on one rez and only a stone's throw away on the Navajo rez the situation is a cross between Mafia/Third World Africa/Mexican Drug Lords/Tammany Hall?

Wow! Another lack of intelligent thought from Sir Charles. Still generalizing and racist again. There are many other tribes (NA) that are successful economically. It is people like you that keeps fueling the racist feeling and attitude. Say something intelligent that we can agree upon.

We just need for the tribe to hire and retain NA college graduates that have experience in their field rather than uneducated relatives and clan members who know nothing about what they are hired to do. The uneducated employees (or relatives) are reckless with tribal funds, resources, and how to work with their people. Joe Shirley is to busy at the top that he fails to look down which is very simple to do. Give it some thought (again).

I hope the Navajos sell their souls to Jesus. Because Jesus make millions every Sunday.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Taurus

Someone isn't mucking about today, and if they're annoyed about something they'll come right out with it. This means you could be on the receiving end of some zingers, but equally it means that you'll be giving as good as you get. Now, although it will be very tempting to let off steam by giving someone an earful, aren't there better directions in which to channel your energy?
