Fire damages Jenison's Chick'n Lick'n

This isnt the first time it burned down!
Maybe the insurance company should insist on a fire suppression system.
I doubt that God had anything to do with it!
I hear he likes chicken.

sum insight- chick'n lick'n jenison never burned down before., lots of money spent several yrs ago for fire suppresion system over cooking areas.,yes there is a bathroom that was available in the the back thru the kitchen. it didn't have central heat in the past so always during these cold months had a portable heater. just one of the many who spent time working at c/l it has been there for over 40 yrs

I don't think the term "Jewish Lightning" is intended to be a racist comment. It's merely a comment that conveys a "Providential" burning of a business, such as when the business is in deep financial trouble and nearly going out of business. I guess in this instance you could just as easily call it "Dutch Lightning".

It it amazing how people can pre judge others on how they think people are I am good friends with the family. they are a honest hard working family that are serving thier comuntiy. we should spend less time playing the he said she said game and pray that Gods will is going to be done and he honors commetment. lets show our support and come together on this one. anyone big enough for this or are you going to condem and complain. People were saying it was arson for insurance too when the Old Time Diner in Hudsonville burned down. Most of the time these fires are just plain bad luck...or good luck if you wanted to remodel.

I have been going to Chickn Lickn for 40 years. Their prices were less than KFC but I would judge their Chickn not as good. The new owners raised prices and forced a soft drink on you with the meal.
Didn't seem quite the same under the new ownership, slower service etc.
Still, I wish them well. I miss the Double Snack with fries.

Their website says they celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2005 after opening the doors in 1975. It's that kind of math that might lead me to believe they might have in financial trouble.

I would guess they opened in 1965 as I had a crush on one the girls that worked there then. I believe it was owned by a Mr Busscher and Mr Spoelman back then. There also was a Chickn Lickn in Holland.

I knew Henry Busscher because I used to do some occasional work for Chicken Lickin. He loves collecting ceramic chickens. We told him a couple times that business was good and why didnt he add on? One of his biggest complaints was that if he did any remodeling at all, he needed to add bathrooms and do all sorts of other things to bring it up to modern codes. He said it would cost too much money and it his age, he'd rather just sell. This fire sounds suspicious to me. I mean, who's got 60-80,000 dollars these days to put into remodeling? With the building code requirements nowadays, it might have meant practically tearing down the whole restaurant and starting off from scratch, which could have cost hundreds of thousands. I wonder how much the old gal was insured for?
