<quoted text> not true. i received an 85.00 citation for improper auto registration. My wife took time off from work to clear things up at the sherrif dept. The cop there took the ticket away. Point is we did not break the law,yet did have to deal with them.(OC)I live in hudsonville and would like the hudsonville police dept. back.
You still have Hudsonville P.D., they were all picked up by the Sheriff's Dept. Get your facts straight. They haven't changed just because of the different color uniform.

the **** hat punched a cop because he didn't feel like going to jail. I say charge him with everything you can think of. and if you don't like OC cops then don't break the law - that's a really easy way to NOT deal with them.
This guys just mad because he goes to Ferris! I guess I'd be mad too...

Hey...follow this link about Minors and the portable brethalyzer testing being done on teens that are not driving...merely suspected of drinking underage.

By all appearances, municipalities, colleges and universities have been violating the spirit, if not exactly the letter, of the LAW for their own personal gain.

How else to justify the 14 sworn officers and one department head with a multi-million dollar budget at GVSU?

Let me see...KIDS many away from home for the very first time...wanting to experience LIFE (in all its glory, good or bad) wanting to drink alcohol...hmmm BIG surprise that GVSUPD would spend so much frigging time, effort and resource ILLEGALLY policing such things.

You know...maybe their reasoning is NOBLE...but the means they are using do NOT justify the ends.

It is my hope that you all follow the link I left above and get your heads out of the sand.

We are losing our inalienable rights to jack-booted thugs who really have no more moral fiber (and maybe even LESS) than an of us.

Should the kid be punished? Sure! But for the assault, NOT the damn alcohol...

You have it right and it is what I have been saying since he was arrested. You posted the link to the article on filing the suit, it is my understanding that they also won this one. The other suit they won involved a local ordinance, this Platte suit involves state law.

The other interesting part of the article is that the ACLU notified many police agencies, including university cops, that their action was illegal. The beauty of that is that the letters make it harder for the cops to argue that they did not know what they were doing was illegal.

Why haven't we seen the police report yet?

Pete, On this thread I am agreeing with you on this. Law Enforcement should disengage from this activity and concern themselves with actual actionable offenses. The proactive activity is too proactive.

Grand valley shows us two reason all sports should be banned from high school and colleges, then the system wouldn't be filled with dumb jocks trying to make it to the big leagues instead of being there to get an education.

the competition and teamwork factors in sports are good, but thangs have gotten out of whack, as exemplified by the good athletes transferred from other districts to EGR.
the 'win at any cost' attitude and persona.
paying college coaches 10-20 times what a professor makes, the nike/ addidas million$.
'camps' so kids can play all year.
urban kids playing basketball 'til dark,
'gonna be Jordan', steroids, criminals in school.
