Hello! If you do not believe in God, Hudsonville should be one of the last places to buy a home or own a business. Everybody knows that most of the people in Hudsonville are religous and that for generations they have incorporated God into their public schools and community.

If you want to mow your lawn on Sunday not hear about it from your neighbors, don't buy a house in hudsonville.

What is this world coming to? People want to seperate church from state, but they forget that this country was founded on religeon. The history of this country is all about religeon and people just need to accept that. You can't talk about US History and not talk about religeon and any city or state should be allowed to have the word God in their mission statement if a majority of the residents approve it.

After one complaint??? Why doesn't someone stand up and tell these idiots to go away where they don't have to put up with hearing about God. Perhaps Iraq, or Iran, where they could be punished severely for not reading their Koran or whatever. Seems like it's about time the 86% that believe in God had some rights in this country, instead of always cow towing to all these Atheists. Lou

It's called seperation of church and state! I can buy a house wherever I dam well please and I dont deserve the state (or in this case 'city') speaking for me when it comes down to where I stand religiously! You Jesus freaks need to get over yourselves. This is 2008 not 1895!

Nazi Germany decided for the public what religion was right for them, granted Hudsonville isnt Nazi Germany but by incorporating the word 'God' into their mission statement they are using the same tactics.

Religion is supposed to be a personal thing and to be decided upon a personal basis not by the government: national, state OR local.

First: Learn how to spell religion.

Second: One of this country's founding principles was FREEDOM of RELIGION. To practice religion in anyway we see fit and NOT have the state decide for us.

Third: Majority means nothing here, thats not what America is about.

It never should have been on the mission statement to begin with. It's never too late to right a wrong.
I'm sure the website is funded with tax dollars, so there should be no controversy--- it's wrong and it should go.

I am not an athiest. In Iraq, Iran and many other places seperation of church and state does not exist. Look how well its working for them. If you believe in church and state as one then maybe YOU need to move to Iran or Iraq.

What part of the First Amendment don't politicians understand!
Has anyone ever told you what a punk you are?

What if they don't remove it? What's you little chicken s--t azz gonna do about it? Your not gonna do anything but hide behind your computer...

IED's & WMD's if necessary. You probably can't even light a firecracker

And the first amendment states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting exercise therof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Sounds to me like Hudsonville is exercising they're first amendment right by mentioning God in the mission statement

Freedon of speech....right dip s--t?

This has nothing to do with believing in God. It has to do with the 1st amendment and the fact that The Government cannot force religion on anyone and have a State mandated religion. That is different than simply refering to God in a mission statement. Although, if there is someone who is a part of that community and they do not believe in God they may be offended. Still, the statement and reference to God does not stop somone from practicing a faith that does not believe in a God or someone who does not what to believe in God. The First amendment does not mean that God cannot be reference in Government. The First Amendment states that people cannot be prevented from practicing their religion of choice and the Government will not establish a State religion. Alot of people what to change what it means but it is what it is.

All that aside, there are a lot of people in Hudsonville that do push their christianity on others. Speaking as a christian, it is against the 1st amendment if you are using God to push your religious views on others. Like all the years The Husdonville Public Schools prayed in school. Kids can pray in school all they want but if you have others with different of no faiths you have to respect the law and pray to yourself. And, Mowing your lawn on Sunday will not send a person straight to H E L L.

I'm so tired of people trying to remove evidence of our nation's religious heritage from public places in order "not to offend anyone" What about the millions of us who that offends.

Lambert Dolphin says "The first step in a nation's death takes place when its God-consciousness dissipates or, worse yet, is deliberately removed." Take that as a warning. And to Hudsonville, I say, stand your ground!

I live in Hudsonville and I say if you don't like you can move. You have many options as to where to live. If you don't know what the area you are moving to stands for then you made a misinformed decision.

To me the mission is to "serve" God, NOT "worship" God. I do believe there is a difference. By revering to "God" we are not endorsing one particular religion. I do believe the Federal Government still uses the phase on all our money "In God We Trust".

As for all these people from outside the West Michigan area making comments as to what we do here and how to live our lives, what business do you have to impose your opions on me. You don't live here so shut up and keep your opions to yourself.

To the "one" person who made the complant,(If you exsist) MOVE if you don't like it. You have the FREEDOM to do that.

My family moved back to Michigan just over a year ago from Columbus Ohio. Our love for Western Michigan was and is still based on the love for God that this area proudly still displays. In other areas of the country, from Denver to Columbus, schools are not able to share Christmas programs or even have celebrations that mention the actual reason for Christmas. We should continue to stand strong on our beliefs and continue to share and include them in our schooling, government and our relationships in our community. It is what makes Hudsonville a place my family and I are proud to call home!

The writer of the complaint says that city officials shouldn't be allowed to promote their personal beliefs. But is she doing the same by promoting an atheist agenda?
