Does anyone else living in Hudson N Summit Co. feel there isn't an opportunity for discussion on issues? Letters to the ed. just don't cut it. There are issues affecting our lives that are ignored by Cleveland/Akron media?
Such as these topic starters from the last 2 months:
A local teacher gives his impressionable M.S. students a lesson in solving problems - suicide. We ask our minister if the Hudson Ministerial Assoc. can make a statement, put together a seminar etc. on suicide prevention, we're told "they have to see if they can get to it." Turns out they were too busy developing a "shop in Hudson week." Good for the soul, I'm sure..
Or how about that gov't stimulus, huh? 20 projects get funded in the state, and one of them is to make sure one part of Hudson doesn't get "stimulated" by passing trains. How many new jobs created there?
Or Mayor Currin's instance yet again (the NEO Regional Prosperity Initiative PD column of 3/15) that Hudson residents are selfish racists (last time he shared that view-- channel 8 Blackhawks incident) and that Streetsboro et al has no right to pull business from Hudson. To paraphrase his view: "If only we could have regional land use planning, we would prevent another shopping area from opening in Boston Heights or Streetsboro that might endanger the city's investment in First & Main."
Is that enough to start a discussion? I'm not looking for answers to these examples (but feel free to chime in)
I'm doing some free market research. Should a Hudson blog be here, on Webblog, would you read it, contribute opinions, tell your friends about it? Thanks!

Do you have a link to those (alleged) comments by Currin? That I would be interested in reading...
As far as Streetsboro "pulling business" from Hudson...ummm...I go to Streetsboro for A LOT of things, because Many of the Hudson businesses are run by people who think Hudson residents are "rich" and have more dollars than sense and think they'll make a killing gouging people that are too smart for that. First & Main was a GREAT idea in theory...but aside from restaraunts was filled with completely inane shops. Then you have the only grocery stores...Acme which is OUTDATED (they don't care if you tell them...they think having remodeled the entryway and wine area years ago makes them great...nevermind the smelly meat dept, wilted produce, and minimal selection of items acceptable only to geriatrics)....OR you have Heinen's (rather a smaller, "boutique" version of Heinen's) at the extreme opposite end. We HAVE to go to Stow & Streetsboro for almost everything. THAT DOES NOT MEAN I want the historic and residential areas to change. We have tons of Hudson land that is not in residential districts, such as the whole part of 91 where Joann is. Put a BJ's Wholesale and other acceptable businesses in areas like THAT and I won't hesitate to support Hudson stores. Don't destroy the town like you did with Chipotle so we deal with more traffic that can't be handled there and TRASH galore littering the areas adjacent to houses.

Blog, it is critical that someone be available to help these children put that incident into perspective. Did the school offer these children any help or counciling? Sorry to hear that the local clergy union couldn't step up to the plate.

I shop in Hudson every chance I get and have not met any racists, selfish or otherwise in that fine town. Sounds like the Mayor underestimates his constituants.

Hudson, I am sure the City Director will take your fine comments to heart.

Calliope-- I wonder why there is a Mayor if the City Manager does everything a mayor is supposed to do? Why have an entitled figurehead and not a second person doing some real managing? They need to start concentrating on putting our exorbitant taxes to use HERE rather than finding ways to robin hood them out to other towns. PICK UP THE LITTER already is a super easy start. Then, stop cowing to the pointless boutique type small business and put places residents REALLY shop in...which can go where Drug Mart or where the broken ground at Boston Mills/Rte 8 is...NOT by the residential neighborhoods or historic areas! There is enough traffics at the main intersection as it is! The location of Chipotle was asinine!
