I think that the sentence he got is ridiculous and the fact that he was allowed back to work after these allegations were made is insane. OMRDD was in the wrong for letting him come back to work and not dealing with the situation when it happened, instead they wait a till a year later. I think that he should have received prison time and should have to register as a sex offender. If the consumer is non-consenting and can not even communicate what happened to her, then in my opinion it is rape. It goes to show that the mentally retarded are still being mistreated even after the Willow Brooke incident so many years ago. If the mentally retarded woman could talk and tell what really happened and go on stand against Rick, like a normal person would that make a difference? I think that she is being stripped of her rights even more by the sentence that Rick was let off on. This judge infuriates me!

The DA chose not to prosecute it (what about DNA evidence?) Sounds like the judge is the only one with guts to do something - he gave the max on the crime that was charged. That DA has to go!

Are you telling me that this man who pled guilty is still working at a group home for the disabled? What is wrong with the OMRDD?

Maybe groups homes for the disabled are not the way to go.
Oversight may be better in a bigger setting. It is so stupid for an adult male to change an adult female's diaper. Grief. One year for this crime is a mind bender.
Thank goodness for the Michael Carey Jonathan Carey Foundation

one year in jail, if this happened on any street the sentence is much longer. his days of working should come to a END.

If the state found out this guy was still employed by a private orginization, that home would be fined up the wazooo and maybe shut down.

I guess the state can't fine itself.

So your caps button does work.

FYI - sentences should begin with a capital letter. I learned that at the fourth college I attended.

I have a cousin with DD who lives in a group home in NYC (Fineson Residence, Lower East Side). It is well known that the manager of the facility Curtis Walker, has stolen tens of thousands of dollars worth of supplies, foodstuffs, household equipment and petty cash reserves. Curtis Walker has also sexually assaulted male consumers and even staff members, This atrocious behavior is still tolerated at group homes and should cease now. This well known liar and thief has seriously damaged the credibility of the organization who hired him and for some reason, chose to over look his drug past. It is incredible that a man delegated with so much authority would steal and essentially abuse our most vulnerable citizens. This is not uncommon with DD facilities. With their low wages and benefits the hiring pool has intrinsically lowered the bar. This same individual was terminated from his previous job for allegations of sexual assault on an elderly female consumers. No one has had the courageto contact authorities about this sick pervert and he continues this reckless behaviour to this day!
