Kids today have it much too easy. When I was in grade/elementary/junior high school none of the buildings had any air conditioning (only the high school had AC) and we were never let out early over it being too hot or too cold. We just pushed on through and continued our learning. This was back in the 70's and 80's.

Our summers are much hotter than they were back in the 70's and 80's. I remember not having air conditioning in our buildings either, but it was never this hot. It's not about being easy, it's about being safe.

If the hot trends continue, maybe school should start after Labor Day (like it used to) and stay in session until mid-June.

Thats how the school here are, they always start after our fair which is normally the day after Labor Day.

to some of the other posters. They send students home when it is too cold for safety and health reasons, why shouldn't it be the same for the heat, the heat can be more dangerous than the cold. Do you (or want your children) to sit in a class room while the heat indexes outside are hitting above 100 degrees? Without AC or without a lot of airflow? People die of heat stroke..think about it!

Agreed! Perhaps some of the money from the multi-million dollar tax levies school districts are always passing could be used towards air conditioning.

Well why don't all the students and teachers just strip naked? Then they'll have other problems to worry about and forget all about the heat!!:)

Geez...with my great problem solving skills, I ought to be President.
