We used to play cops and robbers and cowboys and Indians with cap pistols.

In the 1950s, the East Side of Dayton was full of little alley rats and brats, wearing plastic Army helmets and cowboy hats; tricycles and bicycles being our horses, of course, riding them across the bumps in the sidewalks. Teeter totters, merry go rounds, and monkey bars at Emerson Elementary School being our bombers and fighters and tanks and submarines stagecoaches and forts, of course. All of our dads had been in the big war, with some of our mothers and others who had done war work at local factories that were booming and busy. This shit would give current school administrators and teachers and protective parents hissy fits! We used to throw rocks at each other too!

Modern moderate tolerant [save for fun with make-believe guns and personal property] public-fool people and sensitive protective parents would squeal, if they could look at our old World War Two/Combat/War/Sgt. Rock comic books; that were violent and racist but with great art and gory glorious heroic stories. We always beat the crap out of the Japs, those yellow little guys who wore glasses and were four slanted eyes. They always screamed "AAAIIIEEEE!" when they were burned, bombed, blown up or shot. We never killed any women or kids, unlike they did. After I got bored and tired and too old for my comic books, I burned them in the trash barrel back behind the old farm house! I am still pissed because I cannot honestly blame my mom for this!
