We moved into the round courthouse in May of seventy-seven. I forget how long into the future it was to serve us but, many years. It cost three mil if I remember correct including what new furniture was purchased. Most offices took the old furniture with them. that was thirty-two years ago. Now these imperialist must have everything new every year or two.(Ernie Morris Enterprizes) I have always questioned the intelligence of these better than we are's. However is it possible for so many to be so stupid collectively? Just last week Jennifer Hill met with Briggs, Hall and Lord only knows who else to say "we're going to build this judicial center (tabernacle) She apparently thinks the judges run the county government. I guess they do with the weaklins we put on the commission. Then if poor ole wiggling Jimmy says anything the old four want to chastise him. Much like the country as a whole Lake County better learn quickly to live within the means of the taxpayers ablility to provide. If these idiots don't think Lake County bankruptcy is possible they are drinking too much cool aide.

To Be Expected

The Lake County School Board's and Lake County Commission's current "budgetary crisis" is to be expected because when the politicians and bureaucrats are allowed to get re-elected time after time and remain in office for too long, they lose touch with reality and get too used to having the "Old Boys' Cloak" wrapped around them which in turn creates a a feeling of "Entitlement" on their parts, which is the primary result of "rigged" elections such that which we have witnessed for at least the last three election cycles. The voters are given no real choice as it is nearly impossible for any competiting alternative viewpoint or candidate to overcome the distinct advantages conveyed by the incumbents freewheeling spending and favoritism to the well know established interests such as the development/builders interest which currently control the alleged to be Republican Party, so our current fix is entirely to be expected, when conservative budgeting and governance principals are thrown out the window in favor of unpaid for highways, schools, and runaway governmental building sprees which do not serve the taxpayers' interests.

What a brilliant idea. I hope the government officials read this because there are some great ideas here, especially for the schools. I had no idea about the private ownership of school buildings in Va. Great input sir. Thanks Lauren for your information to the public.

So if the government leases from a private company and let's say that private company decides to evict the government, then were are they supposed to go? I don't recall an abundance commercial realestate in Tavares. What if they couldn't find something big enough for the courthouse or other county buildings in Tavares...then they'd have to move towns. You know how much money it takes just to change the address of everything ever printed?
Yeah, let's lease buildings for our schools! Great idea, so when the lease is up the greedy private owners can sell to some developer for a new shopping mall. Then who's gonna be left holding the bag when the school district has to build a new school.
Think things through...this is the dumbest idea i've ever heard!
Why has there been no mention that the sheriff takes over half the county budget??!!

There has been some blogs on the Sheriff's budget and the fact that almost 3MIL dollars for employee dependants health insurance and wasted
overtime that only the elite can claim. However, Lauren will never attack her good friend GARY. She thinks he is the greatest thing that ever defecated between shoe leather.
He went to the BOCC and asked for bodies he never hired and used that money to give his department a 4.5% pay increase. Two-hundred $ Holiday bonuses. Now he is going back to the BOCC to ask for funding for twenty-five % of tgen more bodies on a Federal grant. Also in the plans a new
two-hundred and fifty thousand dollar
SWAT MOBILE and he'll just give the old one away. Waste, Waste and more waste. these people never met a taxpayers dollar they can'tg waste.

It's called a salary and benefit package. Get over it.

If you believe Lake County deputies are so overpaid with extra benefits then go to the academy and apply for a job as a deputy. I'm sure you'll be a millionaire in no time, lol.

But alas... since you're merely a complaining sheeple, one of the protected instead of a protector, you won't do it.

Hey Fed Up,

I am a protector, I was protecting when you were dodging sperm shots. I was one of the original
attendee's of "the academy." I would certainly not want the likes of you protecting me. Its not about the job. Its the fair treatment of all government employee's. Lake county does not give these benefits to any other agency. Teachers & firefighters families do not get free medical coverage. FDLE,& FHP and all other state agencies, do not get free family paid insurance at the taxpayers expense. Also, I am a taxpayer. To you this is a benefit. Naturally, its human nature for people to take all they can get. Unfortunately you are getting more than you fair share. Ask a fireman. Ask a trooper. If you are really fed up why don't you move farther south.

I don't have to apply for anything,I've been there all along, I'm looking at you. Grow up, stay safe, and become someone everybody can be proud of. After all the taxpayers hired you to do a job, they did not adopt you to raise.

Employees do not get free family health insurance from LCSO. If they do, let me know how to get it. Also, the state does have free health insurance if both husband and wife work for the state. It does not have to be in the same department, but it does have to be for the state.

What you are talking about with the State is Employee medical and health insurance. If both a husband and wife work for any agency they should be entitled to the EMPLOYEE BENEFITS. Visit the
LCSO budget at www.lsco.org over on the left click on budget. Visit each category and you will see a section for DEPENDANT HEALTH INSURANCE. In the LAW ENFORCEMENT GENERAL FUND alone the cost of dependant health insurance is one million three hundred thousand dollars. That is exactly twice the amount in that fund which is paid out for EMPLOYEE HEALTH INSURANCE which is six-hundred and fifty-thousand. This DEPENDANT HEALTH INS. is broke down in each section of the budget except for Montverde.(Apparently the one Deputy serving Montverde is single and has no dependant coverage.) Click on the above link and you can verify this. the entire amount of dependant health insurance preminums paid by the taxpayer is just under three-million dollars. You are absolutely right. No agency pays for dependant health insurance anywhere. In fact, some agencies actually require the employee to made a contribution to their own heath insurance or a very large co-pay. You asked how you could get this benefit, the answer is simple go to work for the Lake Co Sheriff's Office. However, given all the waste in this budget and the fact that we are in a depression this unheard of waste of taxpayers monies probably won't last long.

Yet you still didn't apply, hmmm. I guess dealing with violent criminals is too dangerous even with that "bloated" benefit package.

I admire our public safety, but admit, I'm not a deputy and couldn't fight fires either. I do recognize reasonable benefits for the area though and want professionals in public safety, even in Lake County. I'm done arguing here it's been a hoot though. I will keep my opinions directed in more beneficial public action.

Dear Dumb Idea: To answer your question, the average lifespan of a school is approximately forty years but if in the even that it was adequately maintained, which the newly constructed schools in Lake County that I have visited are not, then one would structure the lease to meet an agreed-to time period. So it is ludicrous to suggest otherwise. Many public buildings across the State of Florida are leased which greatly reduces the upfront costs of construction and permitting while insuring that the subject property remains on the tx rolls. The point being here is that all of our local governments in Lake County need to put the taxpayers first and get real-world about providing only the vitally necessary services that we can benefit from as a fair return on our money and can afford and budget according to conservative fiscal policies and not providing massive subsidies for self-serving developers.
The evidence is all around us and in our 56% tax increase in the last four years.
