Mar 4, 2013 Full story: KOB-TV New Mexico 17

The bill would raise the state minimum wage a dollar an hour - up to $8.50 - but it doesn't cover businesses with ten or fewer employees.

I wonder what the malt shop thinks of this<G>?

I don't have a problem with the minimum wage in general, as long as it is understood that raising wages is not the proper cure for the economic woes of this nation, state, county and city! Continuing to raise them in and of itself will do more harm than good as more workers will be let go to compensate for others - this is a generality, not a specific.

People like to bash business, and in some cases it is justified - however let us remember that it is business who employs people. Without business there are no jobs, unless you subscribe to Obamanomics where nobody needs a job.

The dumbest idea ever! Yeah, let's encourage the local folk to work for the big box stores and screw the hardworking mom and pop shops! Yeah, brilliant (sigh....)

The governor will be sure to sign it, in that case.

I think it is a great idea. Will take everyone out of poverty and we will all benefit from feasting on the minimum wage. The economy, after all is static, and we have enough jobs. Just pay everyone more and everything will correct.

Yep there you have it - all the Socialist Progressive Libtards in the State Legislature
just don't get it.

You can't raise everyone up so easiest way is
to tear everyone down to the same level.

This is right in keeping with the Dumb as crap
party platform of leveling the playing field for
everyone- they just don't get it.

Pie in the sky thoughts that will never ever be
reality - but better to destroy a society trying
to attain the unattainable then to try to uplift
people and make them accountable for themselves.

But those with 10 employees or less are exempt. Good thinking. Those businesses will exploit their workers and not hire above 10 employees. They will be the underclass.

Yep, that's where I was headed. If the minimum wage worker is looking for a job, they're not likely to show up in droves. The deteriorization of our society continues. Ain't it fabulous?

there is nothing unusual or new about having a minimum wage. The fact that it hasn't gone up in years indicates nothing except how thoroughly the influence of those on the top has been able to keep more of the fruits of everyone else's labor to themselves as productivity has grown. A higher minimum wage reduces the need for dependency and public programs.

The government has a right to set a minimum wage. It has the right to tell an employer what that minimum wage they pay their employees must be. It should not be a competitive market set by the greedy and unscrupulous teabaggers. The government has every right to effect economic growth in this sector. The government will just have to be sure that it doesn't encourage those irresponsible and hard-hearted employers to illegally circumvent the law. And to be sure that illegals are not hired and exploited for below minimum wage.

It increases tax revenues to the state and federal governments. It increases gross tax receipts to the state as prices for goods and services rises. What is not to like about that.

And there is no good economic data on the beneficial effects of raising the minimum wage. Seems that it is Not a clear cut positive. It actually impacts negatively the people at the minimum wage level and especially teenagers. But, we can speculate that this is just because so many employers are exploitative and once the government steps in the correction to the economy and increase in employment will prove those naysayers wrong.

My, aren't you special. And cute is as cute does. And I thought my post was right up your alley. Owned a business for over 20 year? My, you are the man.

Just waiting for your cites and content to go with your gray form. Let's see the incontestable proof that your quips have substance.

Unions have to love this. Except for the exempting employers with 10 or less employees, it is great to have it legislated and also voted on. Talk about a lobby. Let's vote for whether we get a raise? Just like in Congress. Take it to the people and they will vote themselves from the largess of the treasury. What is not to like about that?

Just interesting what is allowed to come to the ballot and vote and what is reserved for the legislators. Clever.
