This is a win for the kids, NM's future. Those held back may not like it but they'll be a lot unhappier of they can't read well in later life. This also stresses the importance of getting off your duff and with the program for parents. Congrats and thank you all for your bi-partisan support of a good pair of bills aimed at making a better NM for all.

The courts have already upheld social promotion, so this will be another court fight we pay for cuz the dipsticks can't understand the law. Same for he corruption bill, federal courts have already upheld paying out of just the amount owed, and not taking away pensions, either.

Waste of time.

Next thing you know, martinez will ask for a law reinstating slavery since Bachmann thinks it made people Christians, and it will give people jobs, lol!

The people in this state keep voting for Democrats because they are a majority of Mexicans. Democrat Mexicans love welfare dependence and government checks. They will never change.

You need to read the article before you post - you're confused. The Dems have finally embraced the concept -AND- there is no mention of a court battle, except in your post.

when these kids are 15 and in the 7th grade, they will drop out of school because they are pregnant and want welfare

teachers will say schools have improved because they didn't drop out of HS (they never started HS)

What a joke

The Mexican majority in the NM state senate are not Americans, they are Mexicans.
They voted for illegal alien Mexican driver licenses.
They voted for NM union school teachers.

Those Mexicans in NM state senate are going against the will of the people, 70% of NM people are against drivers license for illegal aliens and oppose school teacher unions.

Vote the Mexicans out and vote Americans in.

I hear ya! But the naysayers would rather they don't feel bad about themselves in their youth, yet they'll end up being warts on society and part of the welfare class if not held back - provided no other intervention works. A sad truth. They whine about the system but do nothing to help make it work.

I wouldn't blame it on Mexicans, I blame it on IDI0TS, which are ingrained in all ethnicities, and in our legislature.

It does not matter, you dipstick. The reason APS allows it is because since 1990, and all thru the 90's, they lost in court battles about how holding a kid back would cripple him, so social promotion is now the law. Because we live in a country with judicial review, the law is null and void before it gets passed.

BTW, media reporting is not definitive, if they do not list it, it does not mean it is not possible. Look how awful most reporting is here anyway.

hispanics do score lower. But I worked in an after-school program which corrected that for about 80 kids for $40k.

BTW, whites and everyone voted for the license thing, and welfare is supposed to be a bottom catcher, not a lifestyle. There just aren't jobs in NM to fix it.

Race has nothing to do with it.

I knew a woman who worked as a teacher in espanola, after working as a a.d.a. for brandenburg's office downtown.

She was paid more as a teacher, and in the summer, under a Federal rant, she gave kids xeroxed word search sheets, same type I used in a great school system back east i nthe third grade, and at the end of the summer ,due to the fixing effect those sheets gave to kids, the kids scored 2 grade levels higher. 2 hours a day, for a summer.

Espanola schools refused to do it during the school year.

so I have to agree.

It's an easy problem to fix. In the sixth grade, I scored 2nd semester senior in english, too. Just xeroxed sheets, little problem at all.

Look up this new word: CHEATING
Now look up this word that describes you: FACILITATOR
Finally, look up how our kids score globally: LOSERS
