LIAR LIAR pants on fire Jim Markoe. My account was credited after July 15th. It is one lie after another here. The Star Tribune gets it correct, and they only have half the stories. The only reason that you have a long waiting list is the you have wonderful teachers. The Board is nothing but yes-men to the director. There are lies and deception with nearly every decision made.

One way to see how decisions are made at this school is to read their Board Minutes. The power pyramid starts at the top and is driven by the bottom dollar and hiring new teachers on the cheap. It does not surprise me at all that this school would take money from the state and turn around and take it from their parents too. After reading their minutes, you'll find minimal representation of teaching staff and even less input from educators and the wider community. There seems to be a "market-driven" approach that lacks substance. By the way, what is the director's salary?

Considering that SCPA operates on about $3k less per child than the traditional public school, I think there are going to be cases where fees need to be charged. Aren't fees charged in the traditional public schools as well? The bottom line is that SCPA provides a better education than the traditional public school counterpart (see MN test scores) so they will be a target of the traditional establishment. It has been one attack after another from the traditional public school apologists... and SCPA passes the test each time - with flying colors. This school has been a Godsend for us and our children. Traditional schools could learn much from SCPA!

Another "non-story", sent up by by a few "disgruntleds" and those that have a history of bashing SCPA, because they are pulling students and $$$ away from the Stillwater District. Success breeds contempt, but unfortunately instead asking what SCPA is doing right that is causing them to be successful, wasted energy and resources are put into this kind of stuff. How about an article on how much local school levy money districts like Stillwater keep to themselves every year based on the $ per/pupil formula that taxpayers voted on, even though many of those students no longer attend Stillwater schools (meaning extra $ for students they don't teach). This is unfair and the public levy tax money should follow the student, if they attend a public charter schools. Do the math statewide, the $$ are shocking

How many traditional public school boards will vote members of the board up to $140,000 in bonuses for something that is already part of their regular duties? Funny, I'm struggling to think of any. This school has done nothing but play fast and loose with the rules since it opened and it certainly takes a mafia-style approach to anyone who dares question its authority. The money should follow those students to SCPA only when it takes all the special ed kids and other students it is clearly incapable of providing for. I'm not comparing Gutierrez to Hitler or Jim Jones or anything, but can any of you people think for yourself?
