I was wondering the same thing... I do know there have been a couple of deaths of guests staying there. One was an elderly lady.

I stayed at the Homestead twice and on one of those occasions experienced some weird ghostly things in my room. My parents and I had a 2 bedroom suite and both my mother and I heard what sounded like a little girl crying in both of our rooms. Then I got locked in my room and couldn't get out to the common living room of the suite. The door locked from my side but it wasn't locked and I was screaming for my mom to come, finally she did and the door suddenly unlocked. Also 2 items went missing, one was my used lip gloss and the other was my mom's used mascara. We didn't think the maid would've been interested in our used cosmetics, so it was definitely a weird experience and there is no doubt in my mind that the place is haunted, especially since it's been around since 1776.

I spend 2 nights at Homestead and let me tell you it is haunted for sure. My first night I heard knowing sounds on my window, then it got lauder and lauder. My second night my bed was shaken until I woke up. The hotel felt very heavy and not right. Just a weird feeling that I got.

My grandmother used to tell me a story about a young man who lost his lover in the woods around the homestead one day while they were hiking. Said he spent years looking for her. It goes on but I can't remember the rest, does anyone know this one?

I live in hot springs, right near the homestead. My grandma told me a story about a woman who abandon her husband their wedding night and he killed himself on the 14th floor somewhere (dan ingals was his name) so the woman (miss. ingals) killed herself too and she roams the homestead property for her longed lover. I once baught a dress at the first lady shop in the homestead and on the reciept it read: peacock napkins, ruby pearl earings and ruby pin..... the homestead is haunted so is the velrida rose hotel and spa it has been professonally investigated.

My husband and stayed at the Homestead last week. While my husband walked out on the lawn to take some photos I took a seat and sat on a sofa on the large porch of the Resort. A strong whiff of cigar smoke invaded my space and I thought it was coming from the only other couple on the porch sitting near me. I decided to move up wind of them. When I walked by I noted they were not smoking and there was no ash in any of the ashtrays located on the porch. I moved to the other end of the porch. My husband joined me shortly and within a minute another strong whiff of cigar smoke invaded our space. I asked my husband if he smelled it. He said he did. I told him why I had moved down to the opposite end of the porch. We searched but there was no source for the smoke and we couldn't explain it. Even though we are skeptics, we called our invisible guest "George", thanked him for stopping by, and just laughed it off.

I've been going to the Homestead for nine years with my friend who is part of the Owners Club. We've had some experiences. The very first time we went when I was 12 and she was 13 we went down to hotel and were exploring. The Crystal Ballroom was empty for the night and most of the lights had been shut off. We were twirling around and giggling when we heard someone say in typical Scooby Doo fashion, "Get out!" The theater had a DVD menu on, so we looked in there to see if maybe it had come from that, but the menu was for 101 Dalmatians and never said anything that even resembled the two words. We ran away pretty fast.
Another time we were exploring again and we found a part of the attic that had the door unlocked. My friend went up, but I was too much of a scaredy cat. She didn't see anything but told me it felt weird up there. The next year we went back looking for the same section of attic, but there was construction in the way. My friend snuck up anyway, but soon came running back down telling me that she hadn't seen anything but heard boots walking around without anyone except her up there.
I know there must be other paranormal activity considering it's history of slavery and the fire.

Nikkole has no idea what she is talking about, the Ingals family were the ones who owned the hotel for a long time

I've heard a lot of sightings at the cemetery in Jackson Heights of a man lighting a cigarette and walking around. Will walk up to you and stare into your eyes and its said to be the feeling of evil overcomes you and feels like your being pulled into the earth. Said that he will ask you if your scared of him because you should be. All sightings have happened after 2 in the morning. I've never experienced it and honestly after hearing it, I prefer not to.
