The Pennsylvania Department of Education recently released the names of 12 finalists for the 2009 Teacher of the Year award.

The nominees are:

Laura Barthmaier, State College
Linda Baughman, Mechanicsburg
Robert Hankes, Big Spring
Diane Heitzenrater, Hatboro-Horsham
Gail Rosenberry, Shippensburg
Marilyn Rothberg, Great Valley
Stephanie Ruby, Gateway
Ronald Shealer; State College
Rebecca Snyder, Greater Latrobe
Timothy Spuck, Oil City
Gary Vetre, Upper Darby
Charles Youngs, Bethel Park

In my opinion there should be more teachers on this list from the Hatboro-Horsham area.

shut down the teacher's unions and start teaching the children writing, math, science and reading. that is all they need. stop teaching all crap. they can pick courses in high school and college. teacher's unions are the main cause of poor education. they are a tentacle of the liberal octopus.

Teachers are victims of the extraneous courses and technological advances in modern public education. You should be angry at the administrators who come up with the programs to appear progressive. The teachers don't define the courses, they merely prepare the lessons according to the administrator's wishes. The teachers have to take on more hours preparing these lessons that go above and beyond "the basics." Unions are here because they protect the rights of the teachers from the administration and from the public who are too far removed from the system to understand its inner-workings.

Knows the Truth, the union is a left wing political arm of the democratic party, who have given this country racism, ghettos, welfare state, class warfare, higher taxes and higher costs. it is the party of misery. it is the party of segregation. it is the party of the most unqualified, most arrogant, most stalinist president elect in U.S. history. even more so than FDR, barack(bahack) hussein(nobama.BO) obama.
