My daughter was a student at Caverna High School and Caverna Middle School for the past couple of years, and we moved her to Hart County High School, and she's failing half her classes! Why was she an honor student (all A's and one B) at CHS and can't pass one nine weeks at HCHS? She says she has never seen half the things they're teaching at HCHS before! Her teachers all say she's trying really hard, but has a lot of catching up to do to stay with the rest of the class?!?! Why did Caverna let her get so far behind? Are they really that stupid down there?

I would concentrate more on your daughter than the school and pitching insults down Caverna's way. I am a 1983 Caverna Graduate. I went to Caverna for 12 years so I have no other school except some college I have taken afterwards to compare it to. Maybe your daughter is having adjustment problems? As my Father would say when I tried to blame others for my faults (wich are many) "son there isn't much I can do about the school or other people but I sure do have some control over you". Sometimes we and yes our children are to blame not everyone else. It's a hard pill to swallow but we have to put some of the burden upon ourselves and not blame everyone else for our short comings.

This is the first time i have heard this it is usually the other way around! Caverna has a strict guideline for education and when i switched i was more advanced in all subjects! But they may have changed alot this has been several years ago! Good luck to your daughter i hope she does better next nine weeks it may just be stress of moving i would have a conference with her counselor and make sure nothing else is going on like stress or kids pickin on each other

what grade is she in? If it is Alg 1 then she has Kos. She's very hard to follow. She rambles a lot. Just like Sanford said, you can't change that teacher because she is the only one that teaches the girls there unfortunately. Get her the extra help she needs before it is too late. The CATS scores just came back too. Analize those and see how you do. Mine scored profiecent in Alg. 1 but that is her lowest score on her grade card. Try getting her tutoring and I do know Kos does allow you to make up work and turn work in late. I hope this helps.

Pretty much. They do not know that though because they just teach what they can get by with the rest is left up to the students to figure it out. I feel sorry for Caverna kids they are not being treated equal in any way, curriculum included.
I am referring to the middle school and high school. The Elementary and is not really bad yet.

Agree with "parent".My daughter went to Caverna grades 1 through 12 and was an "A" and "B" student. She graduated 3 years ago ,doesn't know how to write in cursive writing, said they told her they didn't teach that anymore because this is the "computer generation".Sanford, I've read some of your posts and I believe it has been several years since you were in the education system, things may have changed since then.I don't blame the school as much as I do myself, because I should have been giving her education more attention instead of relying solely on the school.

You know I was going to sit this one out, but I have to step in. Yes sometimes Caverna may be behind in certain subjects, but it is up to the students to get the information that is being taught. If they do not understand they have to let someone know. I am speaking from experience, I have had one of my sons make a's in class but make c's on test. Couldn't understand at first, but then figured out that he didn't really understand the process to get the correct answers. After that was taken care of all is ok. He had been given just enoungh info to get half the equation, then was smart enough to figure out the rest for homework but for test was falling short. Most the teachers are taking care of business, just one that I know of doesn't take care of teaching their students.

This isn't the only incident there are other's that have graduated from there an tried to go to good colleges just to have them tell them they need further education such as a finishing school!! Now that is sad..And as far as the teachers teaching that's a crock they tell the students plain an simply we are not here to spoon feed you so if they get what it is that's being taught then fine but if not they will not go back an explain it better to them so how is that teaching,my child has come home numerous times telling me of teachers that stay on the phone or read in case an fall asleep, this school is a joke their teaching skills are lacking in so many areas And the administration is pathetic you could have an honor roll student with no discipline problem what so ever but the first time you don't agree with their methods of discipline or how your child is being treated ,your child will go from an a,b,c student to A d & f student with an attitude problem they manipulate everything to their benefit to justify their discrimination against student's in which they have had problems with the parent And then makes it impossible to transfer your child to another school out of district And to kids that are trying really hard that is a smack in the face exspecaily when they are trying to do the right things an learn,How people like that can just look at them selves in the mirror or have a clear conscience is beyond me,Oh an now that the new law's have went into affect about bulling an threatening what good has it done they take some cases serious and some they brush under the carpet And we all know what cases they brush aside,,they are abusing this new law to the fullest an will continue to do so until they ruin a young persons life an make it impossible for them to be able to be a better Peron or better their life!!So i say to you and anyone else Kiss their @ss agree with them that your child is a problem child with lack of respect"even though you know differrent!" agree that they must of been sleeping when the lesson was handed out!! agree with them that your child is not truely being bullied by one of their "Pet's" And you will be ok But at that time your childs self esteem will go to nothing and your child will feel that nothing they ever do is good enough or that they dont matter because noone is there to protect them!!And you will get all the smile that they can throw your way for being A supporter of the mistreatment of your child!!

How about parents teaching their children? If your child is in the public or private school system and they aren't being taught something you think they should be then YOU take it upon yourself to teach them. Take your kids out of school and home school them. Home schooled kids do better on average than kids who aren't home schooled. You can find out what they need to be strong in for college and try to beef up those skills. Schools are in business to make money not teach. Just remember that. Their number one priority is securing grant money, tax breaks, and paying the superintendent money to blow out of their asses. I'd never trust the state government to teach my child what they need and I would definately not rely on a school like Caverna to teach a dog how to fetch. I've heard nothing but bad reviews about Caverna. From bullying and violence to sexual harassment to students just fucking off all day and not doing jack.

I am sure there are a lot of kids there that just go to screw around all day "a way to have a popularity contest" But there is also quite a few that go there to really get an education because they want something more out of life! But there is always something there holding them back "bullies" Administration" lack of good teachers!!!like i said in my previous post as long as you kiss their @ss you will be fine an so will your children, but God forbide you have a arguement with the teachers or principals it's all down hill from there they think by doin whatever to the children that they are getting back at the parent for not haven the respect for them that they think they deserve, but hell you got to give respect in order to recieve respect dont you agree,And they say that they are protecting our children Rofl who the hell is going to protect our kids from them !! they allow the teachers including prinipals themselves talk to our children anyway they see fit & after that Demand a child an its parent to give them respect Haa!!now on the whole education issues with Caverna they teach what they want to teach an how they want to regardless if the children understand or not they dont care basicaly you get it the first time or else you just dont get it!! i cant tell you how many kids attend there that more then likely can even read or write and if they can its like 3rd grade i mean have you seen some of the postings on the site from these kids that should say it all right there ,

Caverna is an independent school. Why aren't people just sending kids to HCHS. Well, like that's any better! I think all parents should home school their children. Schools are just another bureaucracy and another way for the government to brainwash and control our children. The last person I want shaping my child's mind is our government.

I can remember being taught about drugs in school and they were wrong. I can remember not being taught about earths history because of the Christians who make such a fuss over their creation stories. I had horrible math teachers, they passed the dumbass kids because teachers didn't want to deal with them again, I was forced to sit next to a kid who ate his boogers constantly all throughout school because we happened to share the same letter of our last name. I remember as a Senior there were people who still could not read. WHY they were even allowed to become a senior was beyond me. One kid couldn't even read a play out loud without help from the teacher. THIS is what public school systems are putting out. These people go to college and they have to waste time learning stuff they should have already learned. But what do the colleges care..they make more money that way.

Not to mention there's so much BULLSHIT in school. It's like Topix. Everyone is gossipy and how in the world are kids going to learn when people are constantly distracting them with who is sleeping with who or who said what at break? Poor elementary school kids aren't getting enough exercise in school. I mean..the public school system is just a big cluster fuck of inefficiencies. Don't get me started on the terribly unhealthy food served in lunch rooms.

Humbled, it seems as though you left out one very important part of this story... YOU, the PARENT actually got involved and I believe you went to YOUR son for the answers, you didn't blame ALL the teachers!!!!! Brilliant! If more parents were like you, EVERY child would have a better education!!! Personal responsibility!!!!!

Because of the cap out law's where they are only allowed so many in!! they actually have waiting list you can put your child on but in the mean time your a , b student goes to d's & f's and are made to look like a problem child with little petty issues such as talking back and so on there for they have no choice but to stay there,And be tortured by the kids they have been harassed by all year an the administration does nothing about it till your child takes action them selves then they send your kid off to alternative school or take them to court!!Kids are just that kid's they handle things alot differrent then we do,i personaly tell my kids to turn the other cheek that things will get better just to do what they have to do for 7 hours an come home an not worry about it!!but how can they when it's an on going problem and noone will stand up for them but their parents!!

I loved school lol. The social life was great! Going to games, smoking out back in the parking lot at break, getting stoned with my friends before school, having all of the festivals. Yeah..it was a party. The ability of teachers to teach in a public school system..not so great. The state limits what they can and can't teach. I did dislike all of the "nastys" in school. Such as the kid who ate his boogers lol. And then the dumbasses I had to share a classroom with. Like the kid who couldn't read. Do you have any idea how that kid hinders EVERYONES ability to learn in a classroom setting. Instead of going with the flow we had to stop...and make time for the teacher to help the kid read. That was so annoying!! Not only that I remember what play it was. We were reading Macbeth! How can a person who can't even read without help understand the greatness of Macbeth?

Home school. It's better for the kids. Saves money. It's flexible. I mean..that's where it's at. I wouldn't tell my kid to turn the cheek. I mean if someone is seriously bullying a kid then the kid needs to punch them in the face. Bullies usually back off once someone gives them a hard blow. Kids need to learn to stand up for themselves. Either verbally or physically. It's wrong to use physical force when it's not needed. But..sometimes kids just need to get the crap kicked out of them by one of their peers. Teachers can't whip kids any longer. Which is so stupid. I remember getting spanked in school. It hurt like hell but it worked. Kids didn't get out of line until AFTER spankings went away.

I'm telling my kid, who more than likely isn't going to be in a public school, that if another kid is giving them a hard time give them a verbal warning and the second time beat the shit out of them. A black eye never hurt anyone. If a kid is getting picked on, goes to whip some bullys ass, then they end up getting their ass whipped so what? They still tried. And that's all that counts. Wear that black eye with pride. They earned it!

Yes I know all to well how other kids hinder other kids education. Back in 1971 when I started the 1st grade I can still recall all these parents fussing over what teacher their kids would get. They wanted their kid in the smart class. I was 5 years old and I could read, write, and count to well over 100. They still put me in the dumb class.(My mother was a working lady and probably had no clue of what was going on), so she never argued, she had no clue until later when it was too late.
