Does anyone miss back in the day when Thank You" was spoken? The word "please" was said when someone wanted something from someone else. People didn't use cell phones [or telephones for that matter} they went to peoples homes for a Sunday visit and truely cared about the person they were seeing. Fried chicken for Sunday supper {not KFC].Women would gather together to talk about the best receipes and men would gather to talk about the economy and ways to make an honest living. You could lay down at night and not worry about your doors being locked. You could trust and know you neighbor. Please post your memories of ol. Thank You. Ms Anna

Yep, a great time was had by all. Worked at hard labor from sunup to sundown. Then you could come home and beat the hell out of the kids. Had the outhouse in the backyard. No electricity, if you wanted a fire for heat or cooking you had to go get wood or coal to throw in the stove. Women got married at 16 and basically had no rights. Gays and lesibans better stay in the closet. Blacks had their own water fountains and rode in the back of the bus. That chicken you had for Sunday dinner, you went out and wrung it's neck, then plucked the feathers. No thanks, I'm old enough to have lived thru those days. Give me central heat and air and KFC.

By what you wrote you obviously didn't have a good home. Now go away. You are exactly what the poster was talking about.

I think you missed the point. The good 'ol days may not have been that good. We have a bad habit as a society of romantasizing the past as better than it really was. Example: Pirates. Myth: Pirates are looked at as swashbucklers who are out for a contant party and like just sailing around the Carribian. Truth: Pirates were thieves and killers. Let's look at World War II. The country stuck together for a common goal. We rationed supplies so our troops could fight for truth, justice and the American way. That was the way it really was. However, we were short of gasoline, oil, tires, sugar, wheat, butter, copper, and a host of other supplies. It was a WAR!!!! Young men and women died on the other side of the planet. A LOT of young men and women. Do you see anything romantic about that? It is in the same time frame as your "good 'ol days".

Someday, there will be people looking back on these days and lamenting "Remember them good 'ol days? Y'know, 2012? Remember how gas used to only be $3.50 a gallon? Heck! You could fill up your car for under fifty bucks!!!

The past is gone. The future is uncertain. Make TODAY your Good 'ol Days.

My dear Gorilla,Not everyone had a good childhood and I fear your were one. For that I'm sorry. Yes, we had to work and work hard, but hard physical work never hurt anyone. Actually hard work makes a good sleep aid and it keeps a body focused and the mind from being idle. We never were "beat" but being taken to the wood shed to adjust our way of thinking was done. That sure was better than being fed drugs for ADHD and being told to go play video games and stay out of the grown-ups hair. As far as "wringing our chickens neck" We fed our chickens grain and slaughtered with a swift kill by ax. They were not genically manipulated and fed steriods like today to produce hens that grow in a standing room only cage, never to see the daylight and to grow so big they can't stand up in their final days. Yes, we had to cut our own wood for heat and an outhouse was there. When you went to the outhouse on a cold winters night, nothing felt as good as that old wood stove. Remember, you have to endure pain to know when something it good. I appreciate your comment and wish you well. Oh, and one final comment, yes the blacks rode in the back of the bus and I think they should have rode beside us but in case you have not noticed they are driving the damn bus now and frankly were not welcome on that bus. peace to you .

There was to much racism and bigotry in the past. I'm glad to see that as a people we continue to raise above that.

You want racism? How about electing a President because of the color of his skin? You've heard people say "Now we have a black President." If you or anyone you know voted for Nobama even partially based on the color of his skin YOU ARE A RACIST!!!!!

Everything that Dr. King wanted and asked for has come to pass and more. Today's minorities do NOT want equality, they want special treatment. Equality has been reached. You are NEVER going to reach absolute parity. Just as some will always find something to hold against someone else. There are those of you who will not like this post and hold your opinions against me based on this post. Is that fair? Bigotry will always have a hold in our society to some extent. My point is that equality has been reached. Anything that anyone expects handed to them based on the color of their skin or where they were born is wrong. Stop trying to get more than your fair share. Stop trying to stir conflict where none exists.

As my screen name points out, all racists are bad, even minorities that seem to think that being a minority makes them more equal than others.

Racism and bigotry are based on criteria that are NOT lifestyle choices. A person cannot help being born black or hispanic. A person cannot help being born in Iraq or New Zealand. Homosexual behavior is a CHOICE. I dislike individuals that practice homosexuality because of the choices that they make, not on what color they were born.

I have heard all the old saws. "It's not a choice", "They're born that way", and my personal favorite "They can't help it". The implication is that they cannot prevent themselves from putting their junk into another guy. Bullshit!!! It is a lifestyle choice and everyone HAS a choice.

Am I homophobic? No. Homophobia implies an unreasonable or unrational fear of something. I am not afraid of homosexuals. I do not want homosexuals around me, my family, or my community. I do not want to do business with gays. I do not want to associate with gays. Just as some of you people will say I should be open minded and accepting, I say the same to you. There are people who just don't like gays. You need to accept that and deal with it. If you think I am wrong then you are not very open minded or accepting.

How do you people like being bigots?

If you do not accept my rights to feel and act the way I want then you are the bigot.

You think that has changed?! ha, hardly. People hide it better because it became less fashionable. They started to teach the past as if it was like that then because people were ignorant or didn't know any better those days.3rd graders are taught the civil war/slavery but not truthfully. At an age they hardly notice classmates skin color even if their parents do take about another race. Kids left alone with kids without parents play together no matter what color, It's their nature. They are given reasons to hate when they are taught whites made black people slaves. Thats not accurate because it was not just black slaves but white slaves also and it was the rich and not all of them that own slaves not just rich white people because rich black owns slaves. Even indians, as they were called then, owned slaves. Almost every free blacks that were well off owned black slaves. There were also laws that were in place then that made what we thing is right to do today the worst thing to do then if you cared. According to the laws then a wife was seen no different then a slave. They were property and for a while women could never own property in most states at that time. Even free slaves depending on the state could own property. If they are going to teach young children about that time in history, why leave major facts out. Why teach the white man killed off the indians and stole their land and teach that the white man beat and killed blacks and forces them into slavery. Before Columbus came to America many of the natives were already wiped out from plague and civil wars besides Columbus did not discover America. There were already huge cities that native americans had huge civilians and even some cities more population or how it was the teaching of Darwin's evolution that allowed and made it okay to the world when countries start to enslave the black people, especially Africa because they use to trade and view African royalty as equals. Yes Africa use to be very civilized and had get empires and much wealth and value resources that other world empires respected and traded with diplomatically at first before it was corrupted and slowly taken over piece by piece. But other darker pigments and lesser white races and women of all colors without human rights were also slaved ruthlessly and wrongfully openly because of Darwin's evolution. Those in power took to it because it taught that they had money and power because they were a stronger more evolved people then the poor. That bloodline depended on your rights of being treated as a human being. Truth isn't taught in history and so of course why not have many secrets because not telling isn't wrong or lying lol Now people hide racial hate now because it is viewed as being ignorant when you aren't politically correct. So people hide there true colors to most and have found other things to hate out loud like fat people, the poor, middle class, married couple with more then 3 kids, housewives or living in the wrong zip code, etc There will always be hate in this world. Hate keeps the population controllable. The 'ghetto' doesn't create a corrupt a country and it's government or crime rates to rise. It is those corrupted ones in power that created the ghetto and corrupts the morality of a country. When criminals are in power without punishment then it rolls down the hill to the little people. Bad communities, cities, counties, etc aren't because everyone in the community is bad people. It is because over time those in charge have corrupted to the point that everyone has their hand in the cookie jar. Just ask any soldier home from Afghanistan what the military really does there and if they are truthful and happen to not be blind, they will tell you they help opium farmers and go after farmers that hurt the profits. point being, hate is controlled, it is taught, influenced from power not a grandparent.
Been there done that

What good old days? This country was started on land stolen from the Native Americans, built on the backs of slaves and founded by a group of rich white men who had to nerve to write "All men are created equal", while looking out their window at the African Americans toiling under the blazing sun.

Yea, the Native Americans were told to move over. Who did they take this country from? What made it theirs? As far as the Darkies, they were sold to the rich white folks for good money by their own people. They were brought here to work and got partially civilized in the process. If they hadn't been brought over here they would still be running naked in the jungle breeding and killing each other. I say they are still just "partially civilized" look how they kill each other over here .Whats worse is the ones that have gotten a little education they're still bitchin about that 40 acres. Peace to those who deserve it.
