What is going on in DeSoto? Our long time bank shuts down. Come on people who has seen a bank shut down in these parts of the country lately. Now the new deli DOWNTOWN has gone out of business. The China restaurant and Down Under tavern has closed. We lost Tina's nightclub. We lost two cafe's on mainstreet. We lost a fedex or Ups store a few weeks ago. We lost a candle store . Don't blame Wal-Mart for this! Hell we can't even keep a second hand store around here very long. Now that is bad. I hear we are getting a new candy store on mainstreet real soon. Why in sam hell would you put a candy store in DeSoto? I forgot about our only non boxstore grocery store closed up. We lost a car wash. Our local Smitty's furniture store went out of business. Our brand new Dodge, Chevy dealership went out of busniess. We lost Cajun and Cottonwood golf courses. Although Cottonwood is trying to start up again. But it will not make it because people will not support it. Desoto used to have 2 swimming pools. Is this town about to go under. DeSoto has more repo homes per capita then most of our surrounds counties. Oh yes I forgot that we used to have the biggest bridal store in the county . Our local Radio Shack went out of business and now just does business fixing a few old tv's. Now tell me if someone out of town ask you if DeSoto is a growing town for businesses what would you tell them? DeSot used to be a safe town. Not anymore. You would not believe the auto thiefs in this town. It is worse than the surroundings counties. What is your take on this trend? While I'm on a roll . You have a school board that gave a nut case a extension on his contract and then fired him and gave him 200 thousand dollars to get out of town. You have some high ranking people who are running city hall that seems to enjoy getting into someone else's panties besides their own spouses. I can sum this up. Desoto is a washed up, dirty, poor and horny town.

Well i can think of 16 other places to eat. So why dont you try one of them. Businesses will come and go, we have a lot here. Competition is tough a business is not a charity we are not going to donate money to them. As far as city government they are always looking for ways to improve. if all you see is negative about desoto run for an elected office.

Hey Chad could you please name the 16 places you said we could pick from in DeSoto to eat? Yes Off the Hook is not shutting down. I was thinking about running for a councilman because I need for my street in front of my house to be repaved. You know what I'm talking about. The city manager and one of our counsilman had their street repaved and new curbing while everyone else went without. What do you have to say about that Chad?

Some of these businesses closed up because the owners wanted to retire after 30-40 plus years of being a business owner

You didnt lose cajun golf course it wasnt forced to close they made a very good profit off a 9 hole golf course when they sold it. The electronic store in town you mention is looking for a buyer so they can retire. Jeeze the way you talk desoto is close to closing down. Where was this fedex or ups store. Shouldnt you know which one it is before you say they closed. How can radio shack be out of business yet still be in business? I am so confused. Guess i will go get something to eat at the new 24hr huddle house that has recently opened. I am confused why you would have all this negativity.

Ok I can tell Chad has not done his homework. Cajun was on the verge of bankruptcy because they couldn't afford to keep it open. So Wal-Mart got it for nothing. Mr. Strump's Radio Shack is not a Radio Shack anymore. He sells used tv's and radios and a few electronics. He didn't wont to retire but there was no business. The UPS store was in the little strip mall beside EJ Pashia's baber shop. It lasted about 4 months. But on the positive side of things we did celebrate Frank Wicox days in DeSoto yesterday. I know most people would say, who in the hell is Frank Wilcox . Don't you remember he played on the show The Beverly Hillbillies. He lived here when he was 7. He left town when he was 7 and never came back.FUNNY! This has been fun Chad. Yes I do love DeSoto but I'm just a little bummed out about how it has declined so much in the last few years. Desoto is one of the few towns that used to have swimming pools and 2 newspapers companies and a radio station. Not anymore!

People are buying food and fuel only in this Obama economy, and prices continue to increase.

Yes i didnt do my homework didnt know i had any. The people who owned cajun just used the barbeque place. Then they decided to sell to walmart. I know the family pretty well and they were not in financial trouble. As far as getting it for nothing that is pretty funny stuff thanks for the laugh.

My my someone is not happy with DeSoto! I will agree with DeSoto Resident on a few things. Since I moved to Festus a few years ago from DeSoto one of the reasons I did was because there is nothing left in DeSoto to do. Your main street is pretty but it closes up at 5:00 pm. The school system is still in a mess. The city hall antics are still the same as when I lived there. I like DeSoto but just want to visit not stay there. Good luck to all of you who still reside there.

Don't forget about Subway and Fatboy's. Seems to me along with the 17 other places that there are more than enough choices of places to eat. Also, the new Bently sports complex can be added of things to do in De Soto. It seem some people want to do nothing but complain! Geesh! Some people are never happy! I love this town!

I will admit though, the small town politics suck ass! We need a city council that will work for the whole town! We also need to send the city administrator on a permanent vacation! What a waste of taxpayers money!

The only one on any of these lists that could be considered a quality restaurant would be Lorenzo's! The rest of them are just what you mindless hillbillies deserve!

Just because we love this town does not mean we are "mindless hillbillies." There is a lot of history in this town if you take the time to learn it. There are a lot of great people with a lot of heart that live here. I am proud I am from here. Yes, there are politics, however there are politics everywhere you go and some are a lot worse than here. If you do not like it here, move. I appreciate living here, especially after moving away for some time, I realize how nice this town is. I have learned to love and appreciate this town.

Wait... Don't forget the Melba is now in jeopardy!!! Huddle house is a joke!! Foods cold.... Service sucks! Off the hook if someone doesn't take it over yes it will be closing! Sad these business are closing.... Bentleys would be great if they would make it more affordable to families .... Lets face economy is not working for most!! DeSoto has nothing for people to do anymore!!! Kids are bored.... Families travel to neighboring towns and help their revenue for entertainment!!! And yes I'm a long time residence.... Doesn't make you any better than me because of where I live!!! Oh yea don't forget about the sno cone express that the town won't support any longer either that the kids loved so much!!!!!

Get over it De Soto is a has been town. It wouldn't matter what is done its a little to little and a few years late. It's sad to say. It doesn't matter when the economy comes back the town will still be running down hill. Go to Festus or Farmington if you want spend your money and see how De Soto should have been growing when it had a chance.
