I am hearing that Martinrea could be the next plant to go union. It seems the employees have had several privileges taken away in the past couple of weeks and the UAW has been in contact with a small number of people.I have heard that the employees have to ask permission to go to the bathroom.Rumor is that one women wasn't granted permission and shall we say relieved herself at her spot welder.Supposedly she was fired for indecent exposure after telling her supervisor.I do know they have had all the vending machines taken off the plant floor as well as the water fountains unhooked. The plant manager has stated it is due to a safety issue concerning the oils used in manufacturing the steel automobile chassis. It seems the oils get airborne and contaminate food and water during the employee's break periods.I guess full respirators will be required next for all employees. The problem started about a month ago when some bad parts made it all the way to a customer. That customer (Ford) has threatened to pull all of their business out of the Hopkinsville plant. So the Canadian corporate office has sent people down to resolve the quality issues and I guess employee's grabbing a coke and going to the bathroom is the best they have come up with so far.
While I am not sure exactly what is going on I do hate to think that another plant will go union.I have personally seen a couple of plants close due to the increased labor costs. This is not good for trying to get future industrial plants to come to our city.I do agree that asking for permission to go to the bathroom seems childish at best.I would think the national labor board would be a much better avenue than signing your future away to a union.I hope the rumors I am hearing are just that.

voting a union in is not always about money ! Sometimes it's about being treated like a human being. Companies always make threats to close down if a union is voted in , it's another scare tactic to use against employees. Not long ago unions we're regarded as ra thing of the past but with so emany companies doing this sort of thing the are making a resurgence. Corporate America is to blame for this you have to make a profit to stay in business too bad they can't think of any other way to be competitive than to cut benefits. I hope the union wins by a landslide!

The UAW is not all you think that it is..maybe at GM but not in little supplier companies like your. You will find out too late that they are really working for the company and you are left paying union dues. Ask the people down the road at Metalsa...Dana..they are sure sorry about how things went down when they trusted the uaw...they were left on there own..paying union dues and getting little in return!!! Better check this out really well before you make a bad mistake that you can not change!

You don't know what you are talking about. Like most, you don't understand that at Metalsa we have a CONTRACT and thus an agreement between us and the company. We know the rules. The company cannot just change the rules when they feel like it. Every worker should have a contract with their employer.

So out of all the unions in Hoptown, the critics cherry pick one that initially had some bumps in getting set up at Dana, but now is gaining more and more support among the workers there? Good job for showing how awful unions are with that one singular example that isn't even true anymore!

Unions will get your ppl treated more fair by the company and better job security, look at us at Metalsa , we are rocking with all the new business. The company can't just change the rules, they have to abide by the contract. Yes it takes time for them to see it but they do abide. The workers at Metalsa are treated so much better because we are UAW and it takes ppl speaking up to accomplish this. We make great wages , good benefits and a company paid pension on top of that. Why wouldn't anybody want that?

And what did the company take away from you that you will never get back...where was your union then..I know someone who works there and he tells us all the downfalls of the union...he even said that the company gave you a bonus and the union took part of it.....kind of greedy aren't they....that is the name of the game ..they don' t want you to vote in a union for nothing...your union dues pay their salary..wake up and smell the uaw....they are robbing you and you can't see it...

Jucie Jane, hearsay and lies do not prove your point. You have not said one factual thing yet. You are not making your side look very good with these fabrications. There was a person right above you that said exactly how he liked his union, then you made up something to "prove" him wrong. Why would he not mention this? I think if a union "stole" my money, I wouldn't defend them. The fact that people on here are defending unions mean they enjoy the benefits and you are full of it.

Machinist union maybe a good union but the one that you have at Dana isn't...what are you going to do with your 50.00 a month pension ?? You only get that when your age plus your service time equal 85! Maybe you are a company guy because not many floor people will make it that long...that is why the good old union changed it behind your back...you will be lucky if that place is there that long even if your body holds out...union and the company is laughing all the way to the bank...maybe social security will still be around for you. And if you do vote the union in make sure that you are smart enough to get a copy of the contract before you sign...losers at Dana weren't smart enough too...not once but twice...maybe they got what they deserved!!!!!!

Do you know how a pension works? You don't get 50 dollars a month, that is the contribution. That money multiplies through smart investment (not like the legal gambling done in 401k ripoffs). Even if you work part of the vesting period, you still get a percentage of your contribution. The fact is that most workers make more when they retire then when they worked. Ask the guys at UPS who retire at 40 and have a full pension if it is anything like the BS you say.
Please just tell us if you are that ill informed or just that bad of a liar?

Lets say the pension is $50. You multiply that by your years of service and that's what you get a month. My god educate yourself on the matter and get your head out of your ass!
