MLK is one of the worst schools in Hopkinsville... Move or homeschool your child ... MLK is terrible .. read some newspapers or ask around

My children have been out of elementary school for some time now but they were both fortunate enough to attend Indian Hills which is a great school. The only opinions negatively about MLK that I have heard is the fact that there is a high rate of black children that attend the school and they do in fact "bus in" children from better neighborhoods to fill in that racial gap. That being said, I have never heard anything bad about the school or the teachers. Racial opinions seem to be the biggest gripe about the school and that is sad in itself. I don't think you should judge a school based on the fact there are more black students than white. I hope you can get some factual opinions from actual MLK parents about the progress of the school and not just the racial factors...

I have too agree with @just my opinion leave the racial factor out of it, that is a huge problem in this country which in itself, if we approach life this way and yet tell them not to be aren't we merely hypocrites ourself....rather why not teach them to be better than we have been.... I'm not preaching but merely stating the obvious.

I have two children that attend MLK elementary. We just moved here this past school year. Thank goodness my son is moving onto middle school next year. My daugther will be going into fourth. I am going to try for school of choice. The academics are low in this county period. My oldest son is in ap classes in highschool and says his math is 5th grade level. If I could afford it I would send all my children to private school but unfortunatley being a single mother I cant. I would advise you to see about school of choice or look in to private schools. This school system has been worrying me and had me scared for my childrens futures from day one.

Hello, I have a child that has been in the school for 2 years now.. I didn't have a problem with the school up until Feb. 2013. The school decided it was in the best interest of the children to not allow parents into the school unless they have permission from the school principle and then you have to be in there to help the school. No longer are we as parents allowed to attend lunch with our children.. I am a parent who was told in October of 2012 that we as parents could be allowed in the school if we paid 10.00 for a background check. Many of us did just so, then to turn around and tell us that we can bring cupcakes to the parties for our children but we cannot participate in the party with our children. There have been several interactions in this school of misconduct.. One of those was several teachers threatened jail and searched the children illegally for 5.00 that was missing off of a teacher desk.. The second was a child had been sexually abused at the school but no other information was given about this.. This school is the LOWEST ranking school in the Christian County District.. You now be the judge

Try looking into private schools like UHA, HCA, or Sts Peter and Paul. If you can not afford it MOVE to Milbrooke area or Holiday even.

My son goes to MLK and we love it. His teacher is amazingly attentive and does a lot with them. And I have no problem with them not letting parents into the school without a background check, my sons teacher even offered to pay for half of mine JUST to get me into the school. I think it shows that they are taking measures to protect our kids. I very much so agree with no one, even parents being allowed in without the principals permission.
The "sexual abuse" was NOT from MLK. And yes our childs teacher asks us to bring in cupcakes and snacks, things like that, but we don't mind doing that at all.
I think that things could be better, but all schools could use some improvements, but I really like MLK and my daughter will start there next year.
