What is so good about socialism?

We all pay for public schools for the same reason we all pay for the cops or firemen. You may never use any of them, but it is for the betterment of society to have an educated populace, law enforcement, and the ability to contain fires. You may not directly benefit from a public school if you never went there or send your own children there, but if you have a business, you might need workers who can read or add, you might depend as a citizen on educated people like doctors, lawyers, etc who were educated in public schools.
Anyone advocating dismantling public schools or any other vital public service is at the least just a greedy fool and at worst an anarchist crook in the guise of a capitalist advocate.
We have done very very well as a nation running a fine line between free enterprise and social programs. When these two forces work together we get great growth periods like after the New Deal. However the balance has become so off kilter on both sides with over-reaching ambitions on the part of progressives and the unrealistic desires of conservatives to throw the baby out with the bathwater. You can do both. You can cut spending and raise revenues to keep the wheels turning for the good of the nation.
Welfare recipients dont pay for public schools. And dont giv me this crap about doctors and lawyers. We had great doctors and lawyers before we had public schools. How did we ever make it?

They were aristocratics, or the sons and daughters of them that were devoted to being public servants. Medicine wasn't so hot in comparison, actually.

Creating a greater divide between the classes will essentially divide our nation, not geographically, but socially. The result would be a civil war, not fought over land, but money. If you wish to have a divided nation, you were born in the wrong country, the wrong era, or both.

Public school is actually not free, believe it or not, and it has always existed since the beginning of the USA, and even in the original colonies.

Sales tax, the various city and local taxes on utility bills, and while you live in this fantasy land to justify your belief that no one on welfare has a job, many have low paying or part time jobs and they pay payroll taxes too.

So, since your point has now been reduced to nil, why don't you tell us how capitalism provides you with security, shaft?

At the end of the year the federal govt gives it all back to them as fat, juicy refund checks. If you pay ur taxes and the govt gives it back to u you have not paid ur taxes.

And where does that money go? Back into the economy, to be circulated and recirculared, tax on sales and utility taxes. The government gets a good portion of it back in the end, meanwhile commerce continues.

Unless you're a 1%er, you should be far more worried about the vast amount of wealth they control rather than the meager amount in the returns of the extremely poor.

It is very true that the middle class takes the hit the hardest, and the lower middle class has the most to complain about. There is a grey area where making too much to qualify for benefits does more harm that good, but most people that fall there are not using resources available to them that would help the immensely..education being the primary one.

What happens to the old, sick, or unemployed?

Here's a clue... Don't say private insurance... Because insurance is privatized socialism...because if you take more than you've paid in you're a burden to that system.

I honestly don't see what is so hard to understand about taking care of your fellow man.

I sure do. I also have homeschooled children, so I'm paying for a service I don't use.

Don't worry, you'll be all 3 some day, and socialism will take care of you whether you like it or not.

Unless you want to give those checks up, you could always just rip it up...and don't for get about insurance, that's just privatized socialism...wouldn't want you to burden them either.

So the Federal Government gives them back all the city, state, and sales taxes too? Oh wait, they don't.
Of course then there is the whole fact that the Government keeps all that money for a year and does not pay interest back on it either, so it's not like anyone is getting rich on a couple hundred dollar tax refund.

U are not as smart as u think u are, so read: If ur federal return is as much as what u paid in state and local taxes u did not pay any state or local taxes.

I cannot take anyone talking about intellect seriously if they cannot spell the smallest words like "you" or "your" properly while doing so.

Some dogs don't know any better than to bite the hand that feeds it, keeps it safe, prevents it from being on fire, educates its pups, and takes care of it when its old.
