obviously comments from someone who has never worked with selbe, nor even been around him too much. you see, there was good selbe and bad selbe. bad selbe would always show up inside the four walls of campus, where he would scowl at you, talk about you behind your back, undermine you, and just generally disrespect you, your expertise, and your time. then he would walk out into the community with a big ole smile on his face. the dividing line seems to be geographic. most people who worked in the same building as he were relieved to see him go. those outside the building seem to have mixed reactions. depends on how closely you worked with him, or how important it was to you to be on his good side. I agree all this hubbub over an SNL video seems a ridiculous thing to get all bent out of shape over, but there were so many toxic interpersonal dynamics that "outsiders" are unaware of that this kettle was bound to explode sooner or later. people can only take so much of being around someone who thinks he's superior to everyone else in every way. it's good to see him run out of town with his tail between his legs. and hey--it's hcc. that's what we do to our rogue presidents!

Anyone in a supervisory position will make people mad, hurt feelings, and stomp on toes. It comes with the territory. Believe me, when I told my dad I was taking a management position he told me my biggest problem would be personnel. How true he was!
Some people like decisions that are made and some don't. The ones that don't agree with the decisions develop a twisted vision of the person.

Your comments are very close to the comments made by Mr. Hoover who was quoted in the KNE.

Not sure what your agenda is Figures but you are mistaken. I don't currently work on campus but I have still have many friends up there including many in the administration building. Everyone I ever talked to loved Dr Selbe and thought he was doing a great job. The only ones I ever heard talk badly about him were the ones that weren't doing their job or that always complain about everything anyway. I'm not sure why so many educated people always think everyone in a position of power thinks they are superior. I've never seen Dr Selbe with anything but a smile on his face. He had an open door policy and I personally know of many students who called him or went by his office with any problem they had and he would take care of it personally. As for your claim that people on campus didn't like him, that's not true either. A friend told me that last week after he resigned, the faculty spontaneously took up a vote in a secret ballot to commend him for the excellent job he had done while he was at HCC and then the staff voted on the same commendation in and only about 10 people on the whole campus voted against him. That says to me that these few people that are trying to ruin the good reputation of Dr Selbe fall into that class of troublemakers and infighters that every institution has.

Dear Maybe, I hope you're aware that someday you'll be accountable for every word that comes out of your mouth, including a ridiculous lie like this. Dr. Selbe is happily married to a wife he adores and has been for...well...eons.

False accusations. He has a beautiful wife whom he adores, kids who are wonderful. Please crawl back under your rock now.

You are an idiot! You obviously know nothing about my brother or the type of person he is.

I have been standing by and watching all of the derogatory remarks concerning my brother. Those of you making these remarks obviously know very little to nothing about Jim. Jim is a fine Christian man with a outstanding reputation. However, it only takes a very few people to tarnish that reputation. Jim has and always will be a leader at whatever task he is presented with. I have known him my entire life. That being 49 years. I am proud to call him my big brother.

So let us take the derogatory comments away and go to the facts then Timmy. How do you feel as a brother that he was showing videos with sexual humor while on the job? If one of my siblings did something like that, I would be so embarrassed I would not want the general public to even know we were related!

Anonymouse, Would your family be ashamed and embarrassed of you for some of the comment that you put on here?

First of all, nobody calls me Timmy! Second, the video was on national television for crying out loud.

I have known Dr. Selbe professionally for a number of years. I have worked for him, and I have worked with him as an equal, and I have never known him to be anything but effective, honest, and professional. I have never been disrespected by him and have never known him to disrespect any other colleague or employee. Sometimes he and I agreed, and sometimes not, but he always behaved in the most proper way. Anyone who claims otherwise is either uninformed, or perhaps does not possess the same level of honesty and professionalism as does Dr. Selbe.

Cinemax is a nationally televised station, but I wouldn't show the soft core porn they show late at night to my co-worker. Once again, it isn't "Saturday Morning Cartoons" it was "Saturday Night Live". They use the words "penis" and "vagina" on that show often, yet I can't say that at work without getting fired. So you are saying I can because it is on 'national television'? Will you be my lawyer when I get fired for this?

They might be, but they don't know it is me because I am not a public figure and totally anonymous on here! I guess you should have told Selbe to wear a disguise before showing a video about masturbation to his co-workers. But then again, his family doesn't seem too embarrassed because they love going on Topix to further the commentary and abuse on the subject!

Actually, I enjoy coming on Topix and watching the stupidity and ignorance or some. No I am not at all embarrassed to say Jim is my brother. At least I don't hide behind the computer screen and keyboard. I do not claim to be anonymous like you. That is just plain cowardly. I am who I am. Get a grip.

Insult my anonymity all you wish but I have a very powerful ally. The Supreme Court.
McIntyre v. Ohio Elections Commission. 1995. Here are some select quotes from their ruling:

Protections for anonymous speech are vital to democratic discourse. Allowing dissenters to shield their identities frees them to express critical minority views.
Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority.
It thus exemplifies the purpose behind the Bill of Rights and of the First Amendment in particular: to protect unpopular individuals from retaliation.

Do you think the pamphleteers and great letter writer of the Revolution were cowards for not publishing their names?

Obviously you are not very computer literate. Because nothing you post online is completely anonymous. There are these little things called IP addresses that could tell anyone with the proper knowledge exactly who you are. You can hide behind the greatest firewall and I among hundreds of thousands of others can find out who you are but I will not waste my valuable time. Instead, I prefer to just sit by and laugh at all the ignorance.

I have posted pages on here about IP addresses and told many of those like you that make the subtle threat against those like me to PLEASE tell everyone who I am. Nobody has yet. Believe me, I know how anonymous I am on the internet, but thanks for your concern.
