I say he deserves all of this talk and.whatever else bad comes his way. he took an oath to protect us as hopkinsville citizens and he shit on us all. Shouldnt let him resign like they did myers or atkinson or any deadbeat cop who "transfered" to elkton oak grove or cadiz after they messed up here. Currupt law enforcement
Usually they go to Oak Grove. Cadiz used to get a few back in the day. Cadiz won't take em anymore. The dept in Cadiz has tightened up. If you're gonna mess up, don't try it in Cadiz. One Hopkinsville Officer already tried that.

They need to watch the old cop shows on TV and learn how to cover for each other. None of this anymore, just a bunch of backstabbers and everyone is out for themselves. A terrible place to work since Hitler was reinvented. If you are under a supervisor and can get him in trouble then you move up the chain. This really is not a place I would recommend a young person to have a career in.

Wow, now we have people advocating police collusion and corruption. At least "cover for each other" sounds that way, don't it? How exactly do they do this? Ignore when each other breaks the law? Plant evidence on innocent people? Beat suspects and then turn a blind eye to the civil rights abuses?
How far do you think they should go to "cover" for another officer?

Those of use new young guys won't be here for long. Put a few years in to get a start, and then transfer! Don't worry, most of us are already making other plans. What happened to Thompson doesn't seem like anyone's business. Get over it you bunch of judgmental hypocrites. I for one can't wait to leave this small trashy town.

But when someone is drunk and cannot keep their car on the road IT IS OUR BUSINESS ! It's public record. I use that road and my family uses that road.....that makes it our business. Do you use that road? Get your head out D.A. Leave! If you are that stupid I can't wait for you to leave either. Bye.

I know his name has not been mentioned, but would like to know what was the outcome of David Hyde's DUI? Where is he now? He was a great officer (yes he had faults).

Wes I know him myself. I agree with you and I have been defending him too. I will pray for the ones who are so rightous and can judge him because they are Sooooooo PERFECT. Im going to miss him because he went beyond his duty to keep us safe and he wasnt a dirty cop. So he chose to drink and drive he lost this job and respect for some but he is human. Tell him to keep his head up and alot of us are praying for him and his fsmily.
No one is on here acting perfect. If it was someone you didn't know who did this, and they were a "good person who just made a mistake", would you defend them too? Or what if it was someone you didn't like? And how is getting behind the wheel keeping anyone safe? Forget praying for his family....we need to pray for everyone out on the roadway from people like you who CONDONE this type of behavior from a POLICE OFFICER!!!!!

As police officers they should all be setting good examples. I know this one and his time was coming sooner or later. He is out partying all to much. Partying at his age with his job will only lead to being arrested, divorced,or maybe he could have even killed someone while driving. It is one thing to be a 21 year old college student binge drinking every week but at some point you have to grow up fellas. With this said, there are some good family men that work for HPD and I respect those. The bad apples will get weeded out sooner or later. It doesn't mean my respect for police has changed. I hope this young man finds his way back to health and happiness. You all sure know how to kick those who are down, how about instead you pray for this young man.
Very thoughtful and objective response. People can certainly be cruel and are quick to pass judgment. I hope John finds his way back and lands on his feet, as well. Things like this are what drive some people to suicide or at least thoughts of suicide. Thank goodness he didn't hurt anyone. He does not deserve the cruel treatment that I've seen on this site. Life is not black and white, there is gray area. Just because he made a mistake doesn't make him evil, and just because he was a representative of HPD, this incident does not take away from how wonderful most of the other officers are.

You all kill me with "what if this happened, or what if that happened"!Aparentley nothing really happened except the man hit a few curbs or whatever!!! Who cares if hes a Police Officer, because I could sit here all day and say what if the President done this or the President done that, but in reality it would just be the same as saying the cop could have killed someone, when he didnt!
