Get real. Do you honestly believe that a black fireman should be promoted or given special treatment just because that person is black?
I don't know about Henderson but I can tell you that M. Pendleton does a very good job on his own merit and deserves whatever promotion he may have gotten. Good job Michael.
Come on people

As a matter of fact there has been a black fireman promoted, not because of his race but because he deserved it!!! People, please stop hating on the men who got promotions. I doubt the mayor or senator has anything to do with their promotion! Way to go guys!

They hold the black men down at the fire dept. all the time. How many applied for these promotions that were black and white? Two whites promoted with old white money in this town and no black firemen with nothing? Looks bad but what can be done about it? I wonder if Mr Standard has been notified to look into this? If not him might give John Banks a call and see if he can do anything?

Your just plain stupid! It is thinking like yours that has kept the black man down even with all of the advantages that black men are given. Kind of tough when you have to survive and excell on your own merit. And please you can drop the discrimination argument. The most discriminated group in the United Stated today is the single white male. And no I am not not in that catagory.

Really? There were written exams & oral exams that were taken for the promotion process. The two men were promoted because two 'black' men retired. Also, Freddie Montgomery is a 'black' man & is the Batallion Chief. Chief Montgomery is very deserving of his position & also well respected by his men. Did you ever think that these men deserved their promotions & color nor their fathers had anything to do with it? Pendleton has been there for approximately 10 years & Henderson has been there approximately 15 years. People should get their facts straight & stop being so judgmental.

They both deserved their promotions. They had to rake a very tough test and earn their ranks. Congrats to both men on their well deserved promotions

Sounds to me like you are jealous and the only way you can express it is in ways that make absolutely no sense. Racism is alive today because of people like you who like to stir it up. It has nothing to do with reality. Why don't you try getting a job and attempt to succeed on your own? Sounds like jealousy and fear to me.

It is common knowledge that blacks are treated like krap at the fire dept. Look at the percentages of white and black officers and then we can talk!

Absolutely no reason to talk!
The percentages reflect the number of people who
1)apply and qualify to get on the department
2)Work their butts off to get the promotions that they have qualified for.
Notice I used the word QUALIFY/QUALIFIED? That means that the guys and gals on the department took the initiative and EARNED their spot on the department, whatever that spot may be. Not everybody who applies for the department gets hired. That goes both white and black.
NOBODY should be hired or promoted on the department simply because they are black. If blacks want to be in that position then they can attempt to EARN it same as anybody else.

Right on brother, hold the brothers back as long as you can. That is right, have some money in this town and it can get you anything. No brothers hired, no brothers promoted.
