I and three friends did several years ago. We put in a Herdon and got out Cadiz park. Camped out at Taylors Bluff and got to Cadiz next afternoon. Had a ball but seen a few snakes, raccons, etc.

Not the whole way but have been as far as from the bridge on hwy. 164 to the park in Cadiz. A lot longer than u might think with the way the river twists and turns. About 12 hrs. A good 3 hr run is from 164 to the mouth of Casey creek. Add another 5 or 6 hrs to get to 272. Travel light. You'll probably run into a few downed trees that you'll have to pull the canoe over. It's a blast. Look for a large cave about 1/2 way between 164 and Casey creek. A nice little waterfall runs out of it during the wetter seasons

There's a huge cave entrance about half way from hoptown to cadiz that i am trying to locate. Has anyone ever seen it or have pics of it? It was one of the neatest things I've ever seen, to bad I didn't have my camera. I want to go back and explore it because it was getting dark and there wasnt much time!

There are several caves along the river. The one with the biggest entrance is a little ways down stream on the right ( facing down stream) from Casey creek. The entrance is about 2-1/2 to 3 stories tall. It doesn't go back very far though. There is another one just a few hundred yards up stream from Casey creek on the same side. I've been it a little ways but was running short on time. It seems to go back pretty far if you are willing to crawl. I went back on foot a second time but the land owner came out and ran us off. Maybe if you ask permission first he'll let you go. The easiest one to explore by far is the one with the waterfall I spoke of in my earlier post. It's basically a long tunnel with a few rooms off to either side. The main tunnel is tall and wide enough for two grown men to walk in side by side. I went pretty far back in this one and didn't even have to bend over. Could have gone further but ran out of time . I have not been able to locate this one by land but you can't miss it from the river. There are a few more between 164 and 272 but I don't remember there exact locations but all are visible from the water.

The huge cave entrance yor mentionsed is Taylors Bluff and has tunnels that run all the way under hopkinsville! Great place to camp as my previous post mentioned.

I've done it several times. Get 20 miles out of your mind cause it's a long way. 2 day trip at least. Gobs of fun. We used to pull another canoe with supplies etc. Don't put it off. Pick a day the water is running like tomorrow so you don't have to paddle so much. If the water is too fast it's a chore also & dangerous. Do it. So much to see.

I have some pics of the run me and a couple of friends took in April. The quotes about the caves are pretty well accurate. The largest one with the 2 or 3 story main entrance is pretty cool. We went back in it for a good bit. However I was hesitant to go back to far as we didn't have permission from the landowner and i didn't know who it was. This stretch of river is really beautiful and not many people know how neat it really is. If anyone is planning on going please try to be as respectful to the landowners around the river as possible as to not ruin this for everyone, not that they can keep you off the river. I can send you some pics if you give me your email.

Landowners can't keep you off the river, but they can keep you from coming ashore on private property.
