American corporate greed at its worst. The more I learn about American capitalism, the more of a bolshevik I become.

I still don't get how anyone can defend them. They drove mom and pop local businesses into the ground for 30 years and have progressively tried to drive down the local wages in areas and done consistently worse by it's employees as it's profits increase.
If a person did this to your community, you'd round up a mob and run them out of town. But if a megastore full of cheap crap does it, everyone loves them?!?!

You are so right. Yet not long ago someone told me that even Wal-Mart's policy of importing cheap goods made in overseas sweat shops (example the clothing factory that burned in Pakistan not long ago in a fire and killed about 200 workers, mostly young girls, in circumstances very like those at the Triangle Shirtwaist fire in New York City 100 years ago)was proof that "trickle down economics works because it means I can buy a $9.00 shirt when an American made one would be $25.00." He then went on to blast unions. He seems to think that we should go back to the working conditions that prevailed in the USA 100 years ago - that is to say Third World conditions.

This is a much better story than the first one.

If this crap by greedy rich people like the Walton heirs continues, we are going to see a backlash from the working poor like this country has not seen since the 1930s.

I must say mouse, this is one thing we agree on, now can we get back to business of bickering about something else?

It costs Walmart 18 cents to make a toy in China and then they sell the same toy for 14.96. I'm all for making a profit, but not off the backs of employees and factory workers.
