Thank God,someone actually knows what they are talking about! I am really sick of people commenting on things they know nothing about. I have worked with many Physicians,RNs and LPNs over the years, and let me tell you, letters behind your name don't mean anything. It's just like any other profession, you have your good and your bad Drs;Rns,and LPNS.I am outraged that the management of Fairview Southdale Hospital wouldn't allow the LPN's to naturally weed themselves out over time and discontinue hiring any new LPNs going forward. With the average age being 57 years old means the LPN's would eleminate themselves rather quickly. It appears Fairview Southdale got a bug up their butt and wanted to start this all new 100% RN facility NOW without any concern for the LPN's that have committed an average of 22 years of service to this Hospital and community. If the Hospital has no compassion for their loyal employees, how sincere is their compassion for their patients? Fairview Southdale Hospital is wrong!

Nursing Jobs are not safe from 'foreign imports'.
April 26, 2009
"Legislation is to be filed this week in Congress to open up 60,000 more visas for nurses and physical therapists over the next three years. It is being strongly backed by international staffing companies, such as HCCA International, a Nashville-based medical staffing agency that spun off years ago from the HCA hospital chain."
HCAA spends $30,000+ to import each foreign nurse.
These recruiters make their profit by recruiting from the Nurse Factories of India and the Philippines. The Philippines cranks out 132,000 to be exported nurses annually.

I am a LPN, licensed in both states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I know for sure that employers all over America are fazing out LPNs and request RNs and many employers nowadays request BSN. My question for all including employers, knowing that this is happening to LPNs, why are their so many LPN programs opening all over the place and recruiting new students for the technical schools that are open? Why is this allowed if these technical schools are aware that there's hardly any place in the workforce for LPNs? All the hard work that LPNs went through in schools, the studying, exams and dealing with instructors with psychiatric programs and trauma from when they were in school; this is madness. And where are the state leagues for LPNs to fight for us like the leagues for RNs? Why are employers allowed to ask for at least 1-2 years of recent experience knowing that people have been laid off for that amount of time? Why are employers allowed to look up people's personal credit report especially if the position doesn't entail finances/money? How is this allowed in today's society and absolutely nobody is doing anything about it but instead, people want to boycott b------- ass causes that have nothing to do with someone's livelihood?
