I find it to be ironic that the Pioneer Press would even give space to this article. In the so called "State of Hockey" the Pioneer Press gives more coverage to outstate basketball then it does to in-state hockey. Too often you cannot find scores or coverage of local hockey whether it be prep, or college. Finding information regarding hockey regionally is next to impossible. The Pioneer Press is more than willing to give you the scores of the Wild and the Gophers, but what about the "State" of hockey? Many of the hockey athletes in Minnesota go on to play for out-State programs at the Junior and College level. Not all of them will be a "Gopher". Not everyone is a "Gopher " fan. When the Pioneer Press devotes more than one page to hockey, instead of the five pages of basketball or NASCAR, then we can call Minnesota "The State of Hockey".

Don't hold your breath.The PP will only cover as much hockey as they have to.They will jump on the bandwagon when the Wild start the playoffs.
Little respect is ever given to the team sport which has formed the lives of many Minnesota kids no matter what level they played at.
Just watch an interview with a hockey player compared to ANY other sport.You will see and hear the team-first attitude every time.It is a great culture.
We don't really need the State Legislators to approve something we already know.I think it's great however to see the kids author this bill and show everyone how proud they are of their sport and the culture that goes along with it.
