The other person in the pickup was questioned by police and arrested by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office on an outstanding warrant. It's not immediately known which occupant was driving the pickup.
Hmmmmmm OUTSTANDING WARRANT??????????
SO WHAT if he had an outstanding warrant (traffic) so what if he has a criminal PAST..does that make him more expendable??? Some of you self righteous jerks would say so and you will answer to that attitude some day...
Judge not ya know...You have no idea how these guys lived their lives today...how many they helped and cared for...all the good they've done...no...the cops and star trib want you to focus on the negatives so that you will think it's okay that a cop killed an unarmed man

The man that was shot had a troubled past. Dishonorably discharged from military, abusive to family, drugs and the like abound! Nobody "deserves" to die, but I believe the police acted in the best interest of the situation. We haven't been told what took place during the "altercation". Maybe it appeared he had a gun. Yes he will be mourned by family, but he wasn't the most upstanding of citizens either. God bless him and his family and the police officer involved.

One day soon one of the these shoot first, ask questions later will kill someone who is connected, maybe a judges or prosecutors kid, maybe another officers kid who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Then we will see some changing attitudes, but unfortunately not until then. The rest of us are all expendable at will.

<quoted text>Here's the facts as I understand them
Fact 1: Police officer in his personal vehicle pulls over civilian.
Fact 2: Police officer shoots and kills civilian.
My personal opinion
Opinion 1: Police officer has to live with himself the rest of his life.
Opinion 2: Police officer may have to stand before 12 of his peers.
Opinion 3: There are probably many many grieving civilians.
Opinion 4: There are no winners never will be and there is no such thing as fair.
Opinion 5: We all make decisions that we a have to live with or die by.
Sorry your Fact#1 is false; The cop was not pulling them over; They were already stoped on the side of the road.

Murdering someone is not the best interest of any real human being. The off duty cop should have gone about the situation in a professional matter and there would not have been an "altercation". The cop had no idea of his priors (that where from 10+ years ago); The cop was acting like he was above human kind, He most likely started a fight with Jason (un anouncing that he was a cop) and when he saw he was loosing he decided to shoot Jason point blank instead of calling backup or what he should have done originally "Anouncing he was a cop and READ HIM HIS RIGHTS", not you have the right to die....; All I see was a cop on a power trip thinking he was above mankind, and you are taking the bait saying "police acted in the best interest of the situation"; I mean really do you know this? Were you there when it happend? I completly doubt it.

Guess what, bigger government NEVER works more efficiently ! The smaller the area of control any govermental agency has, the greater the local accoutablity.

You are obviously a government employee, and yes you are a PUBLIC SERVANT.

1. Law Enforcement is never " off duty". There are paid shifts and over time yes, but if you stand in a line at the C Store at 1 am and a robber comes in the store. You know the guy behind you is a cop, but the robber demands your money or kidnaps your child ( what are you doing at that hour ?) YOU WOULD TURN TO THE OFFICER IN CIVIY CLOTHES AND SAY, " DO SOMETHING, YOU ARE A COP. " That happened in Denver.
2. Also an officer can use citizen's arrest.
3. Anybody can defend them self.
4. That car needed to be stopped before the driver killed YOU.
Instead of all these little bitty cities, with all different rules etc let us just get it down to two. Since Mpls will never render to St Paul nor St Paul to Mpls, let us just get all others across county lines etc and have just two, West Metro and East Metro. Same rules for all, costs will be cut, same uniforms, same marked car appearances, public has same expectations and more.
After all we have one provider of lights X something or other. If private business can do it, then so can the local gov combine and do it. Two cities, two mayors, two councils, two school districts....just two. No more cities and counties. Just two gov heads. You can still call one St Paul the other Minneapolis.

.Jason was not driving, he was a passenger.
.Driver was not drunk & was given bac test
.Driver had a construction cone caught in the side of the wheel & was trying to free it.
.Driver pulled over of his own volition to dislodge cone He was stopped no one was chasing him.
.unmarked car pulls up
.person in civilian clothes comes up
.Jason did not have a weapon
.man in civilian clothes did not identify himself, show a badge, or call for back up
.An altercation ensued
.Jason was shot at close range multiple times
.It's called homicide people
.Did the cops shoot the Washington Sniper dead when they got him? I'd say he had a heck of a lot worse history than Jason
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE TO YOU PEOPLE LET'S HAVE SOME COMMON SENSE....this senseless horror did not have to happen. Lets calm down and see it for what it is....the cop lost his head, & reporters do not have it together.

How do you know that he did not identify himself or show a badge? You also leave out a small detail: What caused the "altercation"?

Homicide is any death which is caused by another person. It has no legal implications other then the listed cause of death (i.e. killed by another person). The legal term you are looking for is murder (the unlawful killing by another person).

All I want to know if whether he was armed. I doubt the St. Louis Park Police Department will say though. There are way too many cops with attitudes...Especially younger ones.
However, if you're in a car and someone comes out of their car after you, what would you do? You have no idea it's a cop...Are you going to sit in your car until the person walks up or are you going to get out and protect yourself? I carry a six cell Mag Lite in my car, if anyone gets out of their car and comes towards me, you better believe it's coming out and coming out swinging.

You may not be privy to every little thing that's going on around you, but so what? Crabs can't always be in control, but you don't need to feel insecure, either. Thanks to your electronic devices, you appear to be a little godlike to those who don't have the same access as you do at the moment.
