Why don't homosexuals have to be educated on heterosexuality? Why is it a f-ing one way street all of the time? When is the last time heterosexuals had a parade, had a pride day, or flaunted their sexuality and shoved it down your throat?
Get a life outside of your sexuality. NO ONE CARES!!!
Pistol Pete; Homosexuals are well educated in heterosexuality. It permeates culture! Straight couples hold hands, make out, everyday is pride day for heteros. I personally find it offensive but I don't go around beating up straights.
GLBT education is for ignorant people who don't understand that gay people don't "flaunt" just because they say, walk outside their residence.

Thank you amazed for your comment about the parents and getting counseling - I would love to know what the parents think of their little darlings now - this story is sad on so many levels and it will only get sadder if these girls do not get help. We had different kids in our school and we sure as hell did not jump them and beat them up - this is a disgusting story and shame on you girls for your actions and and your expression of Pathetic behavior.
YOUR POST IS WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS.WHAT DO ONE OF THE PARENTS THINK THAT I KNOW VERY WELL???? THAT NO MATTER WHAT SHE LOVES HER DAUGHTER, AND THE SITUATION HAS BEEN DEVASTING TO THE FAMILY AS WELL AS OTHERS. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF IT WAS YOUR LITTLE DARLING???? BUT PEOPLE LIKE YOU SEEM TO THINK THAT YOU HAVE THE WHOLE STORY ALL FIGURED OUT. YOU ARE SHORT OF MANY MANY FACTS. THE NEWS AND MEDIA HAVE DISTORTED THE TRUTH ABOUT ALOT. FIGHTING IS WRONG. BUT GUESS WHAT???? IT HAPPPENS ALL THE TIME. YOU DO NOT HEAR ABOUT IT B/C THEY DO NOT ALL GET CAUGHT ON TAPE. SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT UNDERSTANDING THAT YOU ONLY HAVE A SMALL PORTION OF THE TRUTH. PATHETIC IS WHEN SOMEONE LIKE YOU POSTS REMARKS LIKE THIS WITHOUT EVEN CLOSE TO THE FACTS!!!!

<quoted text> Having parents notified is NOT bullying the kids. It gives parents a chance to discuss this and then maybe they can confront the school board about any policies that need to be changed. I didn't see any kids trying to help that girl, but I did hear a lot of guys cheering them on. Do you think it's better for a person to be beaten, maybe to death, than to step in and stop it if you can? You talk of school policies, but standing by and cheering on is no different than a lynch mob or being part of a riot. This WAS NOT A FIGHT...it was a premeditated ATTACK on another student. I understand it wasn't going on for long and hopefully some student ran for help; but how many students knew it was going to happen and was standing there to watch it happen. That's why we as parents need to know if our student was a part of this action in any way. I would WANT TO KNOW if my son or daughter was there. And I don't have anger why they did nothing. I am sad that some of our students just stood by and cheered them on. But I am not surprised by their behavior. This WHOLE TOWN would have stood by any student who tried to stop this BEATING; I'm just sorry that a student didn't come forth before the BEATING...not a fight!
FUNNY THAT YOU SAY BULLY. THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT THE GIRL WAS. IT HAD BEEN REPROTED SEVERAL TIMES, AND IT GOT OUT OF CONTROL. SEVERAL STUDENTS HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH HER. DOESNT MAKE THE FIGHT OKAY, BUT THERE ARE ALOT OF MISSING FACTS HERE!!!PLUS, THERE IS A NO BULLY POLICY IN PLACE??? FUNNY HUH???

Right. Like telling someone they are attractive. Or telling someone you "like" them. Gee whiz. Maybe I should beat the crap (and have someone video tape the action) out of every guy who has ever said those things to me.
What proof do you have that any of that happened? Even the girls who did the beating have admitted they did it because they "thought is was gross" that the beaten girl held hands with another girl.
I shouldn't even be wasting my energy on this. But the idea that in 2008 some people still think it is okay be physically harm someone based on the gender they are attracted to is obscene.
Moe, I love how people like YOU try to put words into my mouth. NEVER at any time did I ever say that it was ok to physically harm another person. I simply asked if the girl's sexual harassment of other people was going to be addressed.

Gay, straight, purple, green....whatever. If you are approaching someone inappropriately, especially to a point where they want to beat the tar out of you, you need to be taught what is right and wrong when it comes to acting out sexually.

Why is it that the gay community thinks that it's fun to sexually harass those who aren't homosexual, and then get all offended and uptight when someone calls them on it and gets upset when the sexual harassment doesn't stop? Talk about inappropriate.

Yes, perhpas this was pre-meditated.

But sexual harassment is an issue too, and it should be addressed.

Gee, and you're from CA thinking like that? GASP! Take your hippie PC brainwashed thoughts elsewhere. This was schoolyard fight. The kids should write lines on the board and do a weeks worth of detention after school. End of punishment. My guess is that you were a whiny little runt who got picked on in school and you never learned from the experience to stick up for yourself, so you look to government to solve yet another of your pissy little problems. Grow up and deal with it. Life is tough. These kids are being less and less prepared for reality by you tree huggers.

I'm not suggesting that public schools teach religion. They should however teach values and the difference between right and wrong. When two girls beat on a third while students cheer them on and another video tapes it there is an obvious absence of morality. What is right or wrong should not be subject to the interpretation of the mob. There need to be standards. I suggest the Bible as being acceptable to the majority but if you prefer the Koran and beheading people - be careful what you wish for.
You make it sound as if the Bible is a completely peaceful book. The point is, you can't use any religious books or teachings in a public school, they have no place there. You suggest the Bible as being acceptable to the majority- what about the rest of them? What about different teacher's interpretations of the Bible? How do you get around that? Christianity has the Bible, but look at how many different factions there are. There is no way you can use the Bible as a teaching tool in a public school. I won't deny you have an excellent point about a need for some kind of change but good grief, it mean we need to trample our constitutional rights. Separation of church and state was issued for a good reason.

yes they did the right thing by making one leave and one moving away... but something should be put on their school record about this because it does still reflect who they are and wether or not they can handle living in the real world ... i mean come on they can't handle that in school what are they going to do when they graduate and go to college or get jobs... sexual orientations other than are own are all around us and if they hate this bad in school then they'll hate more outside school... this is a time when we all just need to learn to accept one another and learn to live together for our kids.. parents set the examples... so ask your selfs if their parents may have had something to do with this. not mentally they didn't.. they didn't tell them to do it but they said something repetatively while they were growing up and it made them hate anyone not like them. i've seen it and i know this to be true.... most people follow what they were taught by their parents as children and they pass it to their children.

I hate to be the one to point it out, but the schools already have adopted a religion and force it upon everyone that goes there - atheism. By forcing kids to learn that the only way the earth was formed and that people came to be is through evolution is forcing a religious belief. The Ten Commandments aren't a bad thing to post in schools, even if you want to change the name of them and add a few new ones - they are still the ultimate in good law. When the schools decided to go to atheism and ignore the wisdom passed on by our Creator, they sealed the fate of this country with California leading the way (it sure looks a lot like God is trying to burn that place off the planet doesn't it?)
<quoted text>
TommyO, the big problem with your theory is that atheism is not a religion. Religions involve the worship of a higher power, and atheists do not believe in a higher power or god. Therefore, atheism is not a religion.

DOES ANYONE, EVER, REMEMBER THERE BEING A BIBLE IN A PUBLIC SCHOOL?
I am 42 years old (hence the moniker, TheKaisho42) so I am not a child of the last 20 years of public education. I would qualify as "old school" by most defintions of the term.
I do not ever, even once, remember the BIBLE being taught in any classroom. It never happened. I do not personally know anyone who ever remembers having one, either.
The problem is not the Bible. The problem is not the school. The problem has nothing to do with the Bible NOT being in school.
The problem lies in parents abdicating their parental authority and responsibilities to the schools and NOT teaching the Bible (or, if one wills, its secular value, such as the Golden Rule) at HOME where it should be taught.
It should be taught by responsible parents that have a deep and fervent desire to teach their children good morals, ethics and values. It should not come from any Evangelical Christian or religious group at a PUBLIC school.
If you do not like that, fine, send your kids to parochial school. You have that right and that is your CHOICE. But no one should have to be subjected to RELIGION, whatever the denomination, at a public school.
I am a parent and I have not surrendered my child to the school system OR to any religion. She is free to believe what she wants...without me shoving my belief system down her throat.
And here's the thing; she has, all things considered, turned out to be a pretty good kid.
She did not get that way by accident, folks.
Thank you for putting the focus on parental responsibility. I think one very important aspect of parenting is pushed aside by so many people today---the fact that they are their childrens first role models and teachers. As the Dixie Chicks put it on a song on their most recent CD, "I Hope":

"But our children are watching us
They put their trust in us
They're gonna be like us
It's OK for us to disagree
We can work it out lovingly"

Parents need to remember that their children are learning from their every word and action.
