School board did the right thing. We can not and will not tolerate this type of trash in our school. One kicked out and one moved out. Don’t let the door hit you in the a** on the way out. End of story.

Back in the late 80's when I was a teen we entertained ourselves by hanging out at the mall and by the lake and maybe smoking some weed once in a while. Ahh the good old days when teens could be peaceful and get along. Sure am glad I'm not a teen today. And they say violent movies and games don't affect kids. Hmmm.

I think the girl who left the district shouldn't be allowed to come back ever, I mean she slipped through a loophole to not have to face the schoolboard, and the district's disciplinary actions.

From what I have read here in previous conversations about this incident, the girl who was attacked was also guilty of sexual harassment. That is that she actually made unwanted sexual advances towards the other girls. Why is this not being addressed?

I just don't get it.

I just don't get it.
because she didnt...
make advances
she had public displays of affection (kissed or hand held with another gal...damn...didnt we all do that with boyfriends in high school?)
and thats what the gals that beat her said pissed them off. They even admited it was because of her sexual orientation ..not because she had ever made a pass..she never did that...

they were just dumb in trying to excuse/ explain their actions with a claim of sexual harrassment and couldnt get their story straight. Thoought they could beat up someone and justify it...NOT..look at the video..NO ONE deserves that.

They should ALL be expelled. From what I've been hearing, there were definitely 3 girls involved.

And SHAME ON YOU students who just stood there and watched! How about another year of schooling for YOU, too??!!

Good! I'm glad they're gone. School is for those that want to educate themselves, not start fights. This kind of behavior should not be tolerated in any school. I certainly hope that the school and these girls have learned a lesson from all of this.

Ahh, and the truth comes out. It was a hate crime. Well, when I was in highschool, lesbians were a rare treat to have in your grade :)

How many guys made a pass at these girls in the last year ... no one's calling that sexual harassment! This is homophobia pure and simple. This girl got assaulted because she didn't fit their (and many West-Michiganders') definition of what is "right" or "natural." How sick. Just goes to show that schools need to be more outspoken on the issue of homophobia and harassment. Too many of them ignore it outright.

Is the sexual harassment issue going to be addressed with this?

And for the record- any inappropriate sexual advances no matter what they are or who they came from is still considered sexual harassment.

OK, so is the problem here (a) the girls were in a fight (b) that the one girl has a mental disorder or (c) that they videotaped it and other could see it. I remember many, many fights in school and at worst the school would get parents involved and give the kids detention/chalk board lines. So if it's (a) then there's a bit of over-reaction. Picking on the mentally disabled for their affliction is childish and they should be made to do community service on top of the previously mentioned punishment for fighting. And if it's a case of (c) that they videotaped it and you can watch it over and over, well that doesn't change the facts of (a) nor (b) and should have no impact on their punishment - it's simply the means by which they were caught. So ... major over-reaction by the hyper protectiver reactionary left wingers.

They're in high school. It's called flirting, hitting-on a chick, whatever. It's part of growing up. You PC jerks have made it a crime to show interest in a person. Playing grabby-butt when you walk down the halls in high-school is a part of being a hormonally charged teen. Guys & girls both did it all the time and guess what? No one but the fat cows that got ignored were bothered by it. You PC nutjobs are putting a stranglehold on youth because you are just jerks.

What about your blatant heterophobia? And the feminazi's with their man-o-phobia? And all the obvious white-middle-class-guy-o-phobi a out there? I think it's high time we organize a straight white guy pride day. Screw that - we deserve an entire month to remond the nationm of the contributions we made and continue to make. I demand special prviliges and scholorships and a white-Irish congress committe and PAC's to ensure that my special needs are addressed. Oh dang, that's not needed - I'm not a whining little baby and when I feel I deserve something I actually go out and EARN IT and gain respect through my actions and deeds rather than laws for my beliefs, skin color, or mental disability status (aka sexual orientation).

Get a life outside of your sexuality. NO ONE CARES!!!
Apparently, many people care about sexuality, especially if it is not HETEROsexuality. If no one cared, people would not get beaten up, discriminated against or make comments like yours.

True, in an better world, sexuality would be a personal, private issue made by each individual person. Realistically, our society is not remotely ready to accept people as being different than them. I, along with most people I know, would prefer to live in a world where everyone and anyone is accepted as they are. It doesn't happen. Clearly some member of the younger generations are learning at home that it is okay to hate and hurt others just for being different.

That proves that people do care Pete. I'm just saying....

Violence is violence. NO one deserves to be beaten up for either their orientation OR their public displays of affection (no matter to whome they are with). These girls PREPPED for this assault before it took place; it was not a spur of the moment thing. Anyone ever wonder WHY the gitrl who filmed it was filming in the hallway at THAt precise time? Furthermore, the entire tape shows the one girl putting her hair up and getting herself together BEFORE she attacked the victim. In my eyes, this pre-meditation completely does aay with any credible defense she may have had (not that she would have one, anyway) concerning the victim's behavior.

No. What we have here is a couple of n'er-do-wells that uses their hate and contempt (that I am all but certain they got from HOME) as an excuse to do violence on somebody they did not like. As another poster said, the victim's orientation was just and EXCUSE to justify their actions. How convenient for them, huh?

Well, I hope the girl who was expelled gets the help she needs, but more than likely, her parent(s) are at home cooing and telling her, "You poor baby!" After all, THEIR little girl was subjected to actually having to WATCH the victim make a pass at another girl. How disgusting is that?!(CUE sarcastic tone!!)

I am thinking that if your kid has to resort to a brutal, vicious and FILMED assault to make her POINT, whatever that may have been, SHE HAS LARGER ISSUES THAN MERE HOMOPHOBIA. She needs more than expulsion, she needs treatment, too.

I am getting so tired of people condemning the other students for not intervening in the fight. Don't you people know how our schools are being run? Students are not allowed to intervene. If they do, they are subject to the same penalties for fighting. I know from experience. Perhaps a subjequent investigation and/or hearing would get them cleared, perhaps it won't. Schools basically have a zero tolerance stance on fighting, even for those whose intent it is to put a stop to it. Instead, the student is expected to go find a teacher. So people, please stop criticizing the other students for not getting involved unless you understand the school policies.

I am amazed by some who would defend these bullies actions. I don't care whether the victim preferred women, men, or neither, she didn't deserve to be attacked. I am a heterosexual, married, mother of two young children and I just don't understand the amount of hate being directed to gays and lesbians. And for those who say that fights long ago in school would have resulted in lesser punishments, I say that attacks like this were every bit as disturbing then as they are now. I can vividly remember the day that I was attacked in my middle school locker room by a bully girl who was angry that I had gotten her out in dodgeball. There is emotional trauma inflicted on the victim and on the aggressor as well. At some point she is going to look inward and wonder why she could hate someone so much to do this. I hope the aggressor's parents get them the counseling they obviously need.

I heard from a student in their grade that this had NOTHING to do with being gay or whatever..... it was just some trashy girls all in a fight over trash talking with each other. Jealousy, Immaturity, Just Plain White Trash, Bad Upbringing, was the cause on all parties involved.
