I spent many Saturday's here in the late 40's and 50's. My Granddad was the projectionist. Glad it has been restored.

And for that, you can thank Mayor Bailey and the rest of the "Gang Of Four". The GOBs will own the Beacon, and the tax payers will be on the hook for the whole thing. Just another Ethanol Plant.

I will say that it is good that the Beacon is being restored, but it should wait until later. I have attended a few functions over there recently. The city should wait until the economy is in a better place before moving on any renovation. The weddings and other events I have attended have went off great. The Young Lady-Stephanie, who works there is an absolute delight and very refreshing. She really knows her stuff and makes every event something to remember for that special occasion. She is the best thing over there right now. Maybe she should be running the show and not the library folks. Why is the library, which is not part of the city, running a city venue anyway? Whose bright idea was that? One lady from the library-Julie, who has something to do with the Beacon, is not very friendly at all. No customer service skills for a position that deals with the public.
As a taxpayer, my opinion is that they should wait on the renovation and put the money somewhere else it is needed. The problem is that the current city council likes to spend too much.It would probably be gone by the time anyone did actually get around to any sort of renovation

Ginny,

Do you or your family have any historic photos, artifacts, memorabilia from the theaters?

How sad, that the renovation of this beloved theater brings out such controversial responses. I have many wonderful memories growing up in Hopewell, and my brother, sister and I going to the Beacon theater to watch a double feature (and the pre-movie cartoons!), while our parents did their in-town errands, visiting, and getting groceries at the A&P, on Main. This theater was so classy! I loved the smell, feel, and atmosphere of the lobby, seats, stage, curtains, the little aisle lights, etc. So cool to buy our tickets at the ticket booth, outside. Loved to get the Boston Baked Beans candy. Only regret....I never did get to sit in the balcony.

The thought of a parent leaving there children in that crackhead infested neighborhood is not even imaginable. So many good neighborhoods across the country declined to the point of needing a bulldozer to level them. Its the same story over and over, yet the good citizens turn there heads and move to other locations outside the city limits. One day when people get tired of turning there heads and being politically correct, we may just get the problem corrected, if its not to late. And yes nuggethead, that means you would be run off for good!
