Any truth to a City employee getting caught stealing 3000 worth of Jewelry from a pawn shop.

It is true but you got the story twisted. The suspect stole some jewelry from a friend and went and pawned it at a pawn shop. She was recorded on the shop surveillance pawning the stuff.

This is funny, a simple crime that happens every day, in fact many times every day in every city across this nation, why the big deal? What position does this peson hold in the city? Due to the fact that she is dealing with a pawn shop it is obvious that she does not sit high on the food chain of city employees as far as importance. Every city, business and service provider company in this country has employees that they are not so very proud of, however, that does not taint the organization as a whole. Hopewell high school once had a star basketball player who ended up killing a cab driver, just the kind of player Hopewell needs?

When you are as an individual work/play for an organization, you are representing it in some way. It will cast a shadow on that institution no matter what the rank or position is. Same goes if that subject rescues a baby out of a burning car (example)and the headlines screams: "City of Hopewell employee rescues baby out of a burning car on his/her way to work". I think it goes both ways, and we sure could use more positive actions from our citizens than what this employee supposely did. By the way,since when is stealing jewelry worth couple of thousend dollars a simple crime?? Stealing is stealing, we are not talking about a loaf of bread here.

(1) At what point was the value of the jewelry set at a couple of thousand dollars?

(2) I will take seriously the statement about representing the organization when I read in a paper one of the following items.
A-Respected CPA, a 13 year employee of H&R Block steals items from local grocery.
B-Long time and lead mechanic at Strosnider Chevrolet shoplifts $1,000 of items from WalMart and in a related story it has been said that he is over two months behind in his Snap On account. Nobody says he did not do it.

The place of employment should not/does not define the crime, why do they list certain places of employment and not others?

1. The initial comment posted on this subject asked if there was truth to the rumor that $3000 worth of jewelry was taken.

2. A government institution is more critically looked at than a chain store with minimum wage employees. The general assumption is that city or goverment employees are more honest due to status of their employment with such.
You are right! The place of employement should not matter, but it does in the eye of the public.

Who cares where she works- If she broke the law, then she broke the law. I HOPE you do not see the City Officials in Hopewell as role models. You are in a sad state if you do. Also, if you wanted to get technical, many of the officials are actually stealing from the taxpayers because they definatley are not doing their jobs. Dont judge until you see it for yourself!

the theft did not accur in hopewell ask the great city manager about covering up the female under investigation in the CAs office under Nino. Newman comes in tries to get rid of her and the city manager gives her a job in his office
