This is an email i sent to Hopewell Sheriff Greg Anderson:

"Sheriff Anderson,
Please remind your Deputies that run radar on the interstate that a lot of Hopewell citizens have scanners. Remind them that all of their childish, playful, stupid comments, can be heard by the public. I personally am getting tired of hearing them refer to the State Troopers as "Leaches". I dont really care what your feelings are towards the State Police, this comes down to professionalism and your Deputies sound like kids playing with "walkie-talkies" in the backyard."

THIS is the response i received back from Sheriff Anderson:

"I never realized you were so clairvoyant and knew my feelings about things even without a discussion with me. Is it a curse or a blessing to have such powers? I have great admiration for the State Police mission and most troopers, just for the record. Thanks for the feedback. I hope you are well. Take care."

It is apparent that citizens in Hopewell do not care about proffesionalism when electing people to Office.

Just look at city council, the mayor is about as unprofessional as they come.

What do expect from someone that said "Just because I was elected Sheriff doesn't mean I am going to change the way I am".

Oh Well he said that this wil be his last term as Sheriff, he is going to retire.

But the Sheriff is the most powerful elected offical in town. Why just the other day I heard he was "deputizing the mayor or sumpin". Are you sure that's not what the deputies were talking about.

When the state troopers actually want the revenue from that little section back , they will take it back . Whether it's included in a city budget or not . It's easy to stop . Troopers sitting right outside of the sheriff's patroling area will deter speeding in that area , hence no ticketing . Fox chilling in the hen house is what us leaches will call it .:)

Some people will complain about anything. These 2-3 deputies sit on 295 all day giving tickets, collecting revenue for the city and keeping the roads safer. So what if they talk to each other on the radio? No different than you talking to your co worker sitting next to you. Yes, I also have a scanner, I have never heard anything in appropriate or childish from them. Maybe we could take them off the interstate and you could pay in taxes the money the city would lose. Maybe we could put them in the city and the residents could pay all the revenue instead of the out of state people who get most of the tickets. What real difference does it make that they talk to each other on the readio? Please tell me the real harm? As far as the State Police go they have all of the interstate they can patrol, our deputies have just the little stretch, the State Police should respect that and not use our deputies to make thier job easier.

I did not see anything in the original post complaining that the deputies run radar on 295. Maybe you saw something that I did not, I may be wrong.

I too have a scanner and have heard those deputies call the State Police "Leaches", because they are in the same area. Why refer to them as "Leaches", are they not keeping the roads safe and getting revenue for the state literary fund. As you so well stated the State Police can patrol the entire Interstate, including the little stretch Hopewell patrols. Maybe your deffinition of inappropriate is different than mine.

Talking to your co-workers at work is alot different than using valuble radio time in Law Enforcement. For example: If your loved one needs assistance but can not get on his/her radio to get that assistance, because the other officers/deputies are busy "talking to each other", it makes a big difference. So you see radios in law enforcement are not there so that you can chit chat with your buddies. Getting on your radio to get assistance can mean the difference between life and death.

Since you brought it up, the primary reason Deputies should be running radar, is for highway safety not for city council to count on the revenue for their budget. That makes all law enforcement look bad.

If your loved one needs assistance I hope you will call 911 (the police) and not the Sheriff's office, they can monitor each other's traffic but actually use a different frequency so I am not concerned that there chit chat will interfere with my 911 call. If you think a few deputies chatting about what is happening on the interstate is inappropriate then you probably think everyones behavior but your own is inappropriate. Lighten up, live a little, get away from the scanner!

And that is why they dislike you so much. Because they know you can do that and there is nothing they can do about it.

I understand know. YOU are one of those Deputies running radar on 295, based on your posts. So naturally you think your actions are justified and that section of 295 belongs to you.

I am aware that the Hopewell Sheriff’s Office has more than one channel that they can use. If memory serves me correctly they have 3 or maybe 4 channels that are for the exclusive use of the Sheriff’s Office. The radio can also be placed on scan so that you can monitor all of the channels to include Police, Fire, and EMS.

When I mentioned someone needing help I was referring to you and your buddies on 295 running radar, not someone calling 911. For you see I happen to believe in Officer Safety. For example: I have heard you guys on several occasions not even hear when one of your buddies leaves the interstate, let alone when they have someone stopped. You guys/gal pull people over and do not even bother giving tag, vehicle information, or number of occupants, just I got one and location. For the most part you guys do not even check the status of someone’s license let alone if they are wanted.

And I know you do not have computers in your vehicles to run this information.

Yet you claim that running radar is about public safety. I happen to think that part of public safety is getting unlicensed drivers and wanted people of the highway.

I happen to know some of your buddies on the Sheriffs Office. Unit 9 Hamilton, Unit 8 Rotz, Unit 6 Cheeks, Unit 5 Loving, Unit 3 Sodat, Unit 2 Kephart. Those individuals were trained better than that, as a matter of fact Cheeks used to teach in the Police Academy.

When it comes to my radio usage I do make every effort to make sure that my usage, and those that I supervise, is appropriate and professional. You never know who is listening or when that radio traffic may be subpoenaed.

Often times the only knowledge citizens may have of Law Enforcement is that of what they hear on a scanner. If the Officers/Deputies sound unprofessional they may not think to much of them or their department.

You and your buddies disdain for the State Police is obvious. You feel that Hopewell owns that section of Interstate and the State Police should stay off it.

Keep in mind it may be one of those "Leaches" that finds your cold dead body lying in the ditch, because your buddies were to busy chit chatting about "Leaches in the pond" to hear you say "I got one South bound at the 9". That person you just pulled over was wanted for murder, but you wouldn't know that because your only concern is, let me hurry up and write this ticket, so that I can get another one.

Professionalism starts at the top, based on Sheriff Anderson's response to the original post, I can see were you get your professionalism from.

omg, this is one of the best responses to a post i have seen on here in awhile. this post says it all and says it accurately! i myself am a dispatcher and my number one concern is officer safety and it drives me crazy when officers or deputies take their own safety so lightly. if they dont care about their own brothers/sisters in uniform, they cant possibly care that much about the public they serve. i would like to know how the previous poster would feel if he were on a traffic stop and God forbid, the driver pulled out a gun and shot him and took off, leaving him laying on the side of the road and he couldnt get on the radio to scream for help because his fellow deputies were too busy chatting it up on the radio. i think his viewpoint on this matter would change. and by the way, i sincerely hope that never happens to him. i hope none of these officers or deputies are ever injured or killed as a result of their own nonchalant attitudes.

This Topic is about professionalism and radio usage not $$$$ for Hopewell's budget.

Then again what should I expect from someone with the user name "dumb".

The only that GREG needs to GO for is a beer run.

yougottabekiddingme64,
Your name says it all. You sound as if you have an “axe to grind” with Anderson. I’m glad to see that you use your “valuable” radio time in a professional manner. As to the people that you supervise, how are they out there at McDonalds? I know it can be hard with all the radio traffic in the drive-thru. If you are looking for something to do that would be “valuable”, could you work on getting the McRibb back? I really love that sandwich! So, get back to the deep fryer and get my Big Mac ready!
