Why not? Because you’re helping make it worse. Here’s what I mean:

On TV a bit ago, I saw NBC interviewing a jobless couple whose house was in foreclosure. On the driveway was their Nissan SUV. I shouted,“Hey, Guys, a couple in Japan are bowing at you in gratitude for their jobs.”

Ugh! Jobless Americans driving Japanese cars.....helping put even more Americans out of work!

Oh, how I itch to tell them that, but I’m chicken.

Instead, I tell myself, THEY JUST DON’T KNOW. The Japanese have been seducing us for years. They give their cars and trucks American-sounding names. And our media gives them billions in free advertising that they’re supposedly better*. And they flood us with seductive ads. So, no wonder many buy the pitch.

*But see March ‘09 J.D. Roberts report: For reliability, Buick is No. 1, tops Lexus. And Lincoln & Mercury are in the top 5. Today, differences between Japanese and American, exist only in minds of persons influenced by media who tout Japanese cars. Most media is BIASED for them, and this costs our economy dearly.

Yes, the Japanese get media to promote their vehicles FOR FREE, and at the same time knock American makes. Media shooting our economy in the foot! Ouch!

But the Japanese say,“Don’t forget, we give America jobs. We build cars right here in the US and hire Americans to build them.”

Wow, how shrewd! Hire people here to assemble vehicles and get people to think “Gee, they’re built here. That makes them American.”

That FLAWED belief, sells millions of Japanese vehicles. But here’s the reality: MOST Japanese vehicles come here by boat from Japan.

And the most crucial thing is what country gets the profit from the vehicles sold here irrespective of where they’re assembled. FACT: every year Japanese mother-corporations in Japan reap billions from vehicle sales in the US. Yes, almost 1/3 of their income comes from the US. And these billions benefit Japan, NOT America!

We’re Japan’s cash cow! This, despite almost 50 million here with no health care, 37 million in poverty, 12 million kids hungry each day, 77,000 bridges close to collapse, highways crumbling, inner schools deteriorating, and unemployment 9% and climbing..Michigan almost 14%.

Considering that we feed Japan? Can we sell cars there? Only a pittance! In ‘08, they bought a paltry 10,000....but they sold us 2 MILLION. Fair exchange? Fair dealing?

They’ve even refused to buy our apples. Unlike us, they’re fiercely loyal to their own products. In effect, they close their market to us, but FEAST on America. Geez!

At least the Germans, who sell cars here, let us build and sell in Germany. And the Chinese do too. So do the French, Spanish, Italians, British, and Latin Americans. We build and sell cars almost everywhere but in Japan.

It’s estimated that from driving Japanese, that is, from our “JAPANESE-CAR-I-TIS,” we’ve already lost a million jobs. And if we keep burying our heads in the sand about this, and our makers lose more market, estimates say up to 4 or 5 million more of us will lose jobs. And some predict with trickle-down it could be more like 6 million.

So, the Japanese give us some 300,000 jobs to assemble and sell their vehicles in the US. And by our driving so many of theirs instead of ours, eventually this could cost us 6 million jobs! 300,000 for 6 million?

And now with Chrysler in bankruptcy, and GM on the edge, the Japanese probably are smelling blood. Shall we let them takeover and pull even more yearly billions out of us?

NO! NO! A new, strong GM and Chrysler will emerge backed by the full credit of the USA. And Ford is solid! Last month Ford outsold Toyota here! Maybe we’re getting the message.

Yes, more than ever we need to support our companies. MILLIONS OF OUR JOBS ARE AT RISK.

Support America, not Japan! DRIVE AMERICAN!

P.S. Please use email link at upper-right to send this to many people!

Hello. This is about imports. Get a grip.

It's a global economy now, whether we like it or not. There's probably more American employment involved with th construction of Toyotas these days than there are with Fords. The complexities of today's economy far outstretch the simple "Buy American" mantras of yesteryear.

No mention of the Chinese, who now hold America's financial future in their pirating little hands?

It's so much more than Jap cars, man. If you think "buying American" is simply that, you're seriously underinformed.

The Chinese at least buy our cars, a lot of them. Buick is their favorite.

They're not parasites on our economy like Japan and South Korea.

Again, here the numbers: Japan sells us 3 million vehicles a year, and in return imports only a measly 10,000 of ours. Square shooters NOT.

South Korea sells us 800,000 a year, and in return buys only 6,000 of ours. That's a parasite!

Support America's economy! DRIVE AMERICAN. The job you save just might be your own.

Maybe if Chevy and Chrysler would stop making cars that fall apart less than a year after you buy them, more people would buy them.

Also, how about they give their union workers a decent wage - but ONLY when they are working to produce cars??? They make $40 per hour even when sitting at home? That's not right. Regular consumers are picking up the tab, and that can't go on forever.

It was bound to fail the way they had their system set up.

One of two things will happen before Chevy and Chrysler get back up on their feet. Either the government will take over completely and there will be no private ownership of those companies and then the cars will be crap.....
Or they will get rid of the union or seriously cut back on it (but that won't happen until after Obama leaves office or finally gets big enough to where he thinks he can stab the unions in the back).

Either way they will never be what they once were.

At least the japanese still make cars that last a long time.

300,000 miles is just about to pass on my little Honda Civic. Can you do that on a Chvey??

Nope!

After the nationalization of "American" auto companies, I'll never buy a GM or Chrysler product ever again. Ford maybe, but the same greedy union that started the mess is in control there too, they just managed to stay afloat for the most part.
iluv, you are correct about the Japanese being very nationalistic. I'd maybe even call them xenophobic. They do love to sell us theirs, but they're not going to buy any of ours. That doesn't just go for cars, it goes for technology and probably everything else as well.
Overall, brand new cars are a horrible investment and I'll probably never buy one again. If I do, it looks like it may be a Hyundai.

Geez guys look it's not their fault anymore than it's our fault. You complain about the auto industries and how they are to blame. Well just like Burgettstown says she or he has got over 300,000 miles on her or his Honda. Understand this The Civic is the lower value cheaper model that Honda puts out and it will probably go another 300,000 if it is properly maintained. What they are doing, what they are building, what they are selling should not matter to us. They are people just like you and me they like to eat and they like to see their off spring have something in their future.
You just brought up cars, how about that computer you typed this up on where was it made, that microwave, the TV, stereo, Nintendo Wii, all of it. If it wasn't for the technology that Japan has come up with we would be a lesser of a nation. What you need to do is quit crying about it and see what they are doing and learn. Then teach what you've learned and grow.
We blame everyone else for our own down faults but none of us want to except that it our own fault. What did we do to deserve this?(NOTHING) and that why they are where they are and we are where we are.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Capricorn

Someone is being very pedantic and picky, and they'll soon drive you round the bend with frustration. They're splitting hairs about all sorts of petty problems, but unfortunately you won't be immune from this yourself. You might get caught up in needless details that don't really matter, or take everything that happens very personally. Try to be more objective.
