Is there anything that you have ever thought, that you wish Hoopeston had? What new small business would go over well???? That we don't already have and that ppl would use/visit daily?

A Detox/Rehab clinic, an adult education facility that offers GED courses, and a gas station with a working air pump.

Not necessarily in that order.

Those are all great suggestions John Boy! But seriously... I need some ideas that are within reason....although the air pump isn't bad....maybe we could just open up an air pump station?

Sadly, it doesn't matter. If it sells things that they can get anywhere for a penny less, they will go get it there. And if you as the small business owner looks like you are doing well, have any money, in any way, then the locals are consumed by jealousy and won't go to you.

They want it cheap, and only what they are used to. Hoopeston is plagued by "we've always done it this way" and will not adapt to any change, anything better, anything different.

If you take your money, throw it up in the air, and catch it all again, you'll have done better then you will in business here.

but seriously..........tell us again why an adult education facility isn't within reason?! but I'm sure another bar or restaurant is just the perfect solution, huh?! oh the air pump station......

An adult education facility in this town would be received like celery in a shark tank...completely foreign and uninteresting

Why not a rehab-detox clinic? It could compete with Prairie Center in Danville. We all know that drugs are a big enough problem in this county that it would always have business. It would provide jobs, fill an empty building, pay taxes to the town, and at least somewhat draw people to spend money (i.e. a burger from McDonalds after a meeting). Getting people off drugs is a good thing, once you have the people in there you could offer adult ed courses or job training. It would really be a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Don't get me wrong, I think that and other ideas are needed...I'm just telling you that it won't fly here as its "new". Chemical rehab is very much needed but no one here has the money to pay for it...it's sad but true.

A restaurant can make it anywhere but it has to be great from the day you open and only get better. If you put out bad food there is no second chance. Bars never make any money. But if there is a lot of drug users in the area maybe selling drugs but that does have some risks. Hope this helps.

I was just saying the other day that probably the most successful business in town would be another fast food restaurant (I.e. Burger King.) McDonald's is very busy because its the only fast food we have in town. Although Hennings makes great food and it is always ready within 5-10 minutes. Burger King, Long John Silvers, steak n shake....or even a chicken franchise such as KFC or Popeyes.
If that is out of the question then a youth center would safice. Somewhere positive kids can go with games, a skate park, music, and/or snacks. In other words, entertainment that teaches local kids how to have fun without drugs.
