Civil Beat talks about "The Letter" from Inouye to Abercrombie asking for Colleen Hanabusa to be appointed as replacement.

Neil has said that he no longer cares about the politics of being re-elected. No doubt about it, but Inouye, who backed Neil's opponent for Governor in 2010 (Mufi Hannemann), is now asking from the grave for one last favor.

Neil should do what Neil does best: Make up his own mind.

Seriously, this IS the solution. Neil is the MOST logical interim choice because he knows his way around DC, is buds with Obama, and sat as Chair on the military appropriations subcommittee. He is our most senior viable congressional delegate, period.

Both he and Schatz would have to earn re-election, Schatz in 2014 and he in 2016 (if that's what he wants).

Then, the next elections will be even races for voters to make a clear choice.

As uncomfortable as it may be to consider, honoring Inouye's "last wish" would be less than democratically ideal, treating a seat in congress as something inheritable, not earned through the Voice of the People.

He's even tormenting us from the grave. Hanabusa? Is that the best you've got?

Hawaii Democrats have a thin bench. This is what happens when you don't have competition on the up and up for 50 years. Dems are inbred because of lack of competition, and lost sight of unity by turning inward and fighting amongst themselves.
Look at the factions in the party--the House of Rep Souki/Say/Oshiro dust up is but one example.
If the Hawaii GOP were not so schizo, they would be in a good position to wrest some control right now.
Dysfunctional among those in power, and dysfunctional among the opposition--The People lose again.

It was pretty selfish of him to put Abercrumbie on the spot like that. Its not his position to pick anybody..

He should pick Tulsi, she's not another wacko puppet of the regime. We need fresh, new MODERATE ideas.

After Schatz' selection, I picture Neil on a poster captioned, "What, me worry?"

I also picture Hanabusa on a poster captioned "PWNED."

Abercrombie couldn't have found a Republican hawaiian abo to put in the position? There must be al least ONE...somewhere?
