I'm on vacation but I wouldn't want to live here, they had some people at one of the tables last night talking about Hawaii's slumlords and 20 minute evictions. That's just too third world for me.
If I lived in Hawaii I'de never rent and it's way too expensive to buy. Where I'm from I have an entire spread for less than the cost of one little cracker box in Hawaii.
Going home tomorrow, I just come for the beaches, bars and girls.
It's a good thing you didn't stay for the 20 minute evictions.

So, forgive me, but what's your complaint? What's not to like? You can get a flight to the States if you like. "Making the best of it" in what so many people consider to be paradise, is pretty funny. Sounds like you're a Debbie Downer!

There are pros and cons to living in HI, as in every where in the world. Personally, had it been my choice I would not be living here, but I have to go where my husband get stationed. Having said that I am making the best of my time here and just enjoying the beaches and the cultural aspect. It's not a horrible place, its a modern place with the same issues that face any modern city in the US. You just can't cross the state line to get away. The weather is glorious, there's lots of places to eat and shop you just have to be careful(as in any big city) and take the proper precautions not be a crime victim.

So forgive me, but what on earth is your complaint? You can fly to the states in the time it would take to drive to neighboring states (and with the cost of fuel, it's even more relative). This is a place people flock to from all over the world and wish they could live in. You get to be there, and instead of enjoying it, relishing it, you sit there moaning about it, "making the best of it." Rough life, yeah, to be in Hawaii!

What a Debbie Downer! I bet not many people want to be around you!

Confused,
popolo is black. haole means mainlander but is mainly used for whites. Hawaii is not racist... it's the people coming here with attitudes that act superior and then when someone says something back to them-they cry racism. Hawaii has had a difficult past. we did NOT want to become a part of the US and since becoming a part of the US the native people of Hawaii have been struggling to survive in our own land. However despite the wrongdoing of our people we are still among the nicest people around and I find it hard to believe any of us local person would do anything to someone without it being warranted.

PS UGH. Go back to the mainland you racist bitch.

Ever since I was about five I remeber I used to beg my mum constantly to move to Hawaii so I can take up surfing... I still do. My dream is to surf. My mum likes the idea of moving to Hawaii but she says its too expensive and we'd only see family once or twice a year. That is a point but I still wanna go because I'd love to see the area and that, my friend went to Hawaii when she was about 9 and she said it was the best holiday she's ever been on. I'm not saying Scotlands bad or anything, you have the highlands and ya can run around partying all night around the feilds and you learn the rain dance (which is awesome), but yeah I'd like to move to Hawaii someday. She said to me about 2 minutes ago "If you do good at school you can try to get a uni course in hawaii since you wanna be a marine biologist" and that got me and her talking about it. I'd also like to go to Alaska, California, NZ and the Amazon rainforest place.

Are you a local haole or were you born elsewhere?

I can tell you one thing about us locals. Whenever we meet haole's from the mainland, they come here with this "attitude" problem along with a chip on their shoulder as if they're better than us. This is why many of them get their butts kicked.

However, we are not exempt with our own flaws which are many. Yet, when it's time to cover each others' backs, we can count on our Ohana.

I can understand how you feel because some of my family members experienced the very same thing when they lived on the mainland. Racisim is world wide unfortunately, and Hawaii is no exception with its own profiling.

I can only hope that you get to meet at least ONE Hawaiian family who will open their doors and extend their aloha to you. Once you get your foot through their door, they will take their shirts off their backs just for you.

And, if that doesn't satisfy you, go back home. If you can't live in our environment then, there's more to racisim than meets eye. In plain and simple terms, racisim is worse in the mainland than in Hawaii so, what's your beef?

Do not listen to this person. Hawaii is a terrible place to live. To visit, it's great, just as long as you stay in the "Faux Paradise" spots like Waikiki and Turtle Bay.
But if you are Haole, you will not be happy moving here.
Listen to this advice, and stay in Oregon, Colorado, Cali, etc.
If you really must live in Hawaii, move to our 9th Island, Las Vegas.

Every one dies sooner or later. I would like to see you take your home with you when you depart. Unless you have your deed in hand and paid back all of those loans you don't own your house. The Bank will sell it to pay off your bills, then sell it to the next sucker. If your address is truly Waianae it would be hard to sell since it is filled with homeless, criminals, or those that could not qualify for a home in a better place.

That is how it can be in the public school system. This person is stating a fact of life for a lot of kids. As a kid going to school it was not good for me as their was an undercurrent I always felt of prejudice and judgement.
