Oh, I see how this works.

The King of Pork, so proud of fleecing American Tax Payers and saddling future generations with staggering debt, is still blatantly running up the tab, just so he can get kickbacks guised as "campaign contributions" from those who he gives our money too.

At a time when our national economy is tanking, such actions by Inouye amounts to a callous disregard of the risk of continuing to run up the national deficit.

Placing the entire nation in economic jeopardy is outweighed by Inouye's personal accumulation of wealth paid for by those he gives our tax money to.

For those Hawaii residents proud of Inouye's conduct here, are just as much to blame than Inouye himself.

I would hazard to guess they operate a foreign import automobile or truck, a chunk of which was paid for by American Tax Payers in the recent "Cash for Clunkers and Cheapskates" Democrat programme.

Dont get mad folks, it's just our taxpayers' money changing hands.

Besides, in Hawaii anyway, it's unpatriotic to criticize how the Federal government spends our taxes.

Sad to see Dan Inouye's political career tarnished with deals to his "Good Ole Boy" network of supporters. At one time Dan stood for all the good things a politician should do. However, as his career has started winding down, he has started down the slippery slope showing loss of integrity and leadership, joining other bureaucrats who have also lost it. Dan, you need to retire while you still have an ounce of integrity left. You do have an ounce right? Please do not add another event to the many that keep the Nei the laughing stock of the USA, third world wannabee. Dan, we deserve better, you need to retire and let fresh, untainted blood come in to start new.

AMAAAZING. This is as clearly crooked (and cooked) as can be, yet it's accepted - by us.

I'll remember at election time that Mazie is the one spending taxpayer money without a quid pro quo that benefits herself.

The others, I'll remember too, not that it matters to Inouye, who is a perfect banana republic representative at heart. And so Republican, refusing to discuss! He learned the Bush/Cheney lesson well.

Excellent work Senator Inouye, keep up the good service. You are a true Hero to the Hawaiian Islands, without you Hawaii's economy would have collapsed many times in the last 50 years.

The name of the game is that our Congressional delegation, like all the rest, use their positions in congress to get the "pork" to pay off their political contributors, and, as a side issue, get more jobs for Hawaii. Whether the "pork projects are really needed, is besides the point. Look at all the funded projects that the military doesn't want.(Yeah, and look at how the media always blames the military.) Inouye has milked his WW II experience and loss of his arm for all he can, and portrays himself as the guardian of the military. Yet, he places the 25th ID and 3rd Marine Regiment at risk because of the lack of adequate training areas in Hawaii. Look at what's going on with Makua Valley and with the Stryker brigade. Pohakuloa is only good for live firing crew served weapons. The lava wasteland is worthless for training of maneuver units. Kahuku is so limited that as a battalion S-3 (plans, operations and training), I recall having to call administrative halts because we ran out of maneuver space and had to turn the battalion around to attack in the opposite direction. Look at the fuss that Wilson and the Wiamanalo Neighborhood Board kicked up because the Marines did not consult with them about the construction of the MOUT (Military Operations in Urban Terrain) training area at Bellows, which is federal land. As far as I'm concerned, the politicians and their financial sponsors are contributing to at least negligent homicide. I would like to see these politicians and civilians who impede training be required to have one member of their immediate family assigned to a rifle platoon. Let them share the risk of inadequate training areas and the asinine ROE (Rules of Engagement) currently imposed on our troops.

@Nuff Already: Really, Sherlock?

It's tough to get *anything* done unless you're part of the Corrupt Political Machine. As they say, Democracy is merely Tyranny of the Majority.

Meanwhile, Hawaii Democratic Party continues to give Kama`aina Tax Discounts (Mufi's Homeowner Occupant property tax classification) at the expense of local businesses, tourists, millionaires, and anyone else they can identify as "Not Me!"

Tourists are already flocking to destinations of higher value at lower cost, and aren't visiting in such high numbers anymore. Those that do are are spending less.

So really, without Governor Lingle trying to keep the State's Spending within its means, what are we supposed to do?

Raise taxes?

Good luck with that. Increasing taxes is equivalent to killing the Goose that lays the Golden Egg. Tourists will flock to Hawaii even less; and smarter Kama`aina will move to the Mainland to escape Hawaii's taxes.

Who's left to pay taxes? That's right: A whole generation of minimum-wage earners holding down two or three jobs to make ends meet, crammed along with the 5 other families living in Grandpa's house 'cause they can't afford rent.

He (Inouye)often characterizes his spending provisions as beneficial to Hawaii's economy (because SO many people in the islands don't have to worry about losing their jobs/homes, etc..... Dan the Crook has provided jobs - riiiiiiiight!*Puke, puke!!*)

"By providing for their needs, the civilian community benefits from the research, development and construction that takes place," he said in a statement (how many of YOU have benefited? If you HAVE, then you must be a Union hack!!)

Inouye and his staff have repeatedly refused to explain the justification behind earmarks slated for companies that have donated to his campaigns (because he cannot defend behavior that is indefensible!).....He is not about to implicate himself in corruption.

The entire Congressional system, with its lobbyists financing campaigns then owning the Legislators to whom they have given, is corrupt.
Just look at the Health Care reform bill. Nothing was passed that the insurance companies didn't want. Their stock rose as the bill was developed.
Again, the entire Congressional system is corrupt.
Where's Obama? Where's the real change that we can believe in? What happened to that?
