4 It was Ronald Reagan who FIRED EVERY SINGLE LAST ONE OF THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS who went on strike. As applied here, the HSTA unionized teachers should be FIRED, all 81% of those who colluded on this short-changing of the future leaders of their basic education, from Hawaii. This article only highlights one aspect of the cold blooded, callously indifferent treatment of the public school students in general and the special education students in particular. Shame on you, Hawaii. Especially you smug, HSTA teachers who took our tax money to pay for your spoiled brat to go to private school, but then turned around and encouraged 33% of your public school student to fail. To me, if a student fails, THE TEACHER SHOULD BE FIRED FOR ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN. Go Broke Hawaii. Why should we tax payers give a F about you politicians, and your silly little tax problem, when the monies we pay in taxes do not go to the priorities, but instead into the pockets and retirement accounts of a bunch of pencil pushing, tuck in cheap aloha shirt, angels flight polyester pant wearing, insensitive nerds and nerdettes? On a side note, all you foreign import car drivers, need to get out of my way, because you draining our economy too. No more letting you in my lane any more. Used to be "Go Green, Hawaii." Now it is "Go Broke, Hawaii. YOU deserve it." |

1 Hawaii's heavy reliance on private schools only complicates the task of educating those who are left out, many of them impoverished immigrants from Korea, China and the Philippines living here on Oahu, the state's most populous island. Administrators say it is difficult to extract excellence from a system that parents and politicians, to say nothing of some teachers, treat as a repository of last resort. Over the summer, federal officials reported that 45 percent of Hawaii's publicly educated fourth graders, and 48 percent of eighth graders, had scored below the basic threshold on a math exam given to a broad sampling of students in almost every state. Across the country, by contrast, the average scoring below that level was about 33 percent. ''Folks inside the system will point out the huge proportion of kids who are creamed off the top,'' said, Hawaii's superintendent of schools.''I'm less concerned about the loss of high scores than I am about the loss of political clout and attention.'' |

3 If parents are so very concerned about their childs education, why haven't they demanded that their elected representatives dismantle the bloated, mismanaged, and ineffective DOE/BOE? |

1 A few days of furlough Fridays and everything is going down the tubes? School days have not been fully utilized because most schools do not have a serious daily syllabus. Parents can easily make up by assigning homework. Teachers can also assign homework for the Friday missed. |
||||
|
What furlough? My kids are still learning. How can they not learn? They now bring home triple the homework to do on fridays (which spills over till the weekend. Actually,the teachers make out, they are now ahead of what they need to teach. We are the new teachers.
I know, I know "You should get involved with your kids studies right?" Well I am, suck it up. |

1 Your Honda was actually made in China. Or 90% of its parts were. It's definitely a Chinese car. |

1 Homework does not teach. Homework is just practice. The reason teachers are 'complacent' about assigning homework, as mentioned in this article, is because they are aware of that fact. They also know that maybe half the class will bring back the homework. There is very little new learning in homework, unless it's set up as independent study and you have exceptionally motivated students with parental support. The majority of teachers know that the support at home is nil. |

1 Most parents are not qualified to homeschool. What a disaster that would be. You'd have a workforce even more pathetic that what I witness here currently. Cashiers can't give change without a machine telling them how, and hungry people having to drive through the McD's line twice for one order because it's never right the first time. Mechanics who can't fix the car unless a 'special technician' with a computer flies in from the mainland to diagnose the problem. and then share the top-secret repair plan. Imagine what life would be like here WITHOUT the public education? 10 times worse. Guarans. |
