By the way, why does Sharie Shima look so bad these days? Did she ever publicly say?

I don't know how the stations came up with their decisions on who would be fired, but maybe they should have done a poll or vote to make things more interesting. That way the public would have a say and perhaps viewers would feel more invested.

You've got to be kidding! She has a gorgeous face and a great delivery!
Gorgeous? Your joking right? I mean she's a little above average but gorgeous? But I do like her reporting. She knows what she's talking about, unlike that Brian Ojima (last name?) guy at KHNL. He's got to be the worst sports reporter in local news today. Is he still there?

Bout time they let Diane Ako go. Can't stand her, sounds like a stuck up ho and ugly on top of that. They should have also got rid of Guy Hagi, he tries to input too much of his personal opinions during his delivery and make the weather sound sensational when it's really just the same old thing every day.
Should have kept Zahid, i like his reporting. I have not problem letting Shari go. Actually I don't like any of the weather people except Justin Fujioka, he's decent.
All those that think Kristine and Steph Lum are hot obviously don't know what beautiful women look like, they're ok but they don't compare to Ashley Nagaoka. She's probably the only woman in local news that's truly a hottie.
Ashley Nagaoka is a good looking gal, but so is Kristine and Stephanie as well. Obviously you have no clue.

Malika Dudley is hot, but she is too into herself, which makes her cold.

Talk about irony. Here's what Joe Moore said about Rick Blangiardi in January 2006.

"This has been a difficult day for most of us here at KHON2. It was the final day on the job for our general manager, Rick Blangiardi, who refused to carry out the mass firings of over one-third of our station employees, as ordered by our new owners, who take over tomorrow.

"The firings are not a matter of cutting excess fat to improve efficiency; they will be a butchering of an already lean work force that will remove muscle, bone and vital organs.

"A small percentage of people will be replaced by automation. The rest will severely reduce our ability to serve the community in the manner in which you, and we, have become accustomed.

"The new owners recently changed the name of their company from SJL to Montecito. It is a virtual company with no office building that specializes in buying and selling TV stations.

"Their business plan for KHON2 calls for an immediate, drastic, across-the-board reduction of personnel in order to slash the payroll....

"In short, it is not a plan used by a quality broadcast company to foster a long-term commitment to its employees or the viewers it is charged with serving.

"It is the sincere hope of all of us who have worked long and hard to make this TV station what it is today, that the departure of Rick Blangiardi -- who stood up for us, while he was standing tall for quality television -- it is our hope that his departure will not be in vain, and that our new owners will reconsider their draconian plan, and pledge to the people of this state that operating KHON in the best interests of the people of Hawaii is not only their No. 1 goal, but also their No. 1 priority."

poor Shari Shima getting the pink slip-she's a weather reporter professional, but in the past years, apparently her health wasn't fairing too well and it has shown it's toll with her advanced aging looks (baggy eye lids, thinning hair & weight lost).
In the TV news business it's all about having good looks and the way Shari has looked lately, she should hang up the TV news and move on to radio broadcasting.
Cutie Stephanie Lum is a keeper and so is Mari-Ela David.
btw, has anyone notice that Liz Chun has packed on some pounds?
I thought Liz was pregnant.....but that was a year ago. She has gotten quite huge.

No! I really wanted Sharie to stay. But her many days off for the past couple years (due to her illness) might be a factor in letting her go. Paul Drewes filled in for her so many times!

And I like Diane too! One of the KHNL originals, I personally enjoyed her reporting and professionalism on the news. Hope Diana will be on KHON or KITV, if she still desires to be on locol TV news.

Overall, it's just sad people going. Think about that if you're in their shoes. It's tough! But it's best to only to encourage them that they will move forward and off to much better things, hopefully.

Nice. KGMB had the ratings numbers, but they drove their station into bankruptcy getting them. Now, their reward for finacial ruin is: everything that the people at KHNL/KFVE worked so hard to build. Don't you love American-style capitalism?

I cannot speak for others, but when Guy Hagi comes on with his version of the Weather, I change channels. He is soooo irritating. Does not know the technical terms for weather phenomena, so he makes up his own descriptions. His favorite right now is to call light showers, "splashes of water"., e.g., "a few Mauka Splashes". He also needs to bone up on his English pronunciations. He's still calling the Library, a "Lie-Berry", like a little kid. And his facial expressions during his delivery and post-delivery chats with the anchors make me cringe. Hagi has to go.

Let me put it this way, Kristine and Steph are a 6 out of 10 (with 5 being average) on the hotness scale, while Ashley is a 9-9.5. NEver found Malika to be attractive, although i can see how some people do. I'm just not into her look and i agree that she is kind of stuck up so that's even more of a turn off.

Just hire some broads to deliver the news and weather topless.

Problems solved - viewership will go sky high and be very, very faithful day after day.

But do NOT let this topless thing extend to Joe Moore. His boobs may be bigger than the local gals but ewwwww....

I don't care who gets cut. All newscasters on all our stations are on an ego beauty pagent of some sort. They are all lazy in their reporting and offer only half(if that) of a story. There is no investigative journalism only sensational yellow journalism. I look to on-line for my news these days anyway. Newscasters and news stations are all about image, sex appeal, and not about what their job description dictates. The media here and abroad has dumb-down us to know end and it shows.

If the stations attempt to punish KHNL TV Report Leland Kim for getting out the news then all three of them (KHNL/KFVE-TV and KGMB-TV) can expect a very nasty boycott!

It is bad enough that we have to put up with this news consolidation as it is. We do have to condone Putin style employee repression!

Sorry all of you wonderful people who have been in our home for years are losing your jobs. We love you and wish you well!

Lots of love and support from your appreciative viewers and fans! Keep up the tweets and we will continue to follow you on Facebook. Look to the Internet, it is the future anyway, not broadcast TV!!!

Great Job!!! Mahalo Nui Loa!

I never understood those who danced on the graves of others. That said, Diane Ako is a babe. In addition, Liz Chun is beautiful & cute. Plus, she delivers the sports report like she means it. Unfortunately, the local news is "news lite." It's entertainment and looks count. Forget in-depth reporting because the stations are precluded for fear of digging up stuff that will implicate/ID people in power or their connections. Don't want to offend anyone and suffer the consequences. E.g.s, tell us who appointed the incompetent Judge Hara; tell us why Hawaii's statutes are so criminal friendly, etc. We don't have a truly independent TV news station that will go after powerful interests. Perhaps the town is too small for that. On the other hand, a large part of our community doesn't want hard hitting news - it wants fluff and good looks. Dang.

So Sharie does have health problems? I wasn't sure. I don't know what to believe on the internet anymore. People speculate that she's on meth or an alcoholic on other boards.

Diane Ako: can’t stand her, definitely not news material. Very dour. Preoccupied only with her pet cats and dogs. Surprised she lasted so long. Maybe she should get a job with Animal Planet.
Zahid Arab: I thought he was OK.
Guy Hagi: OD’s on the weather issues. Prefer Justin Fujioka.
Shari Shima: has been going downhill for some time. No surprise.
Stephanie Lum: a real looker. Glad she’s a keeper.
Liz Chun: eye candy. She stays.
Howard Dashefsky: I thought he was OK.
Steve Uyehara: overrated.
Leland Kim: I thought he was OK. Robotic, but right to the point.

I worked with Howard for a number of years and I can tell you he was great to work with. He was good fun but worked hard, too. He always did a good job. I'm sure he'll land on his feet. Good luck, Dash.
