who is going from KGMB? they need to get rid of some people there too. Their morning show is so unprofessional. Shari Shima needs to go. TV is all about looks. There is a time limit for TV anchors just like pro athletes. There is only a certain amount of time you can shine.

How do people get their pink slips? Do they get called into the News Director office? Do they get a envelope on their Desk?

If they want more ratings they should cut short the weather. too much time wasted on explaining weather that is pretty much the same everyday here in Hawaii. Do some good stories like they did in the 70's. KGMB back in the days was the bomb they got Sevey, Coble, Jones, Tindall. those were real news people.

I believe that Shari Shima has been going through extensive treatment for cancer that has caused the dramatic decline in her appearance. What the treatment has not diminished is her knowledge that she has shared for many of us instead of stating the obvious that other weather anchors read...
Before her health issues she in my opinion was the best. How disappointing that we forget the tough situations that many people face with their health. Now that Shari has been laid off, I hope that her healthcare plan is covered by KHNL for at least the rest of this year. I wish Shari the very best in her future endevours and her health. Get well Shari!

Dr Huli Opu here with my KGMB 9 hit list:
Liz Chun - not good enough, bad delivery
Malika Dudley - too self obsessed
Guy Hagi - loudmouth know-it-all, uneducated
Terry Hunter - long overdue
Steve Uyehara - just plain weak
Here's KHNL hit list:
Diane Ako - weak anchor, hardly smiles
Dash - good but never improved, now bland
Brian Ojima - weak
Paul Drewes - put him back to only weather
bummer about Shari she was the best weather girl
Leland Kim was good but a little stiff
Newest hottie with great presence : Ashley Nagaoka
Malika should stay, Liz should stay, Kritine Uyeno should stay, Stephanie Lum...no (she's phony).
Everywhere i've lived the weather guessers are a little quirky, so Guy Hagi fits right in. Besides, Sharie Shima's appearance has become a distraction.

Very sad it all had to come down to this for they're all professionals at what they do and some have been doing it for a very long time. We'll miss all of you but hope and pray you'll find something better and soon. What's happening with our country is really crazy and sad. I didn't think I'd be here in my lifetime to witness the rise and fall of the great U.S.A. and the dreams that suppose to have come with the whole package. Hold on to what you have and pray that we'll all survive this blackhole that our government has put us into....Again, good luck to you Dash, Diane, Shari,Kristine, Zahid, and if there's anymore on the list, God speed with you job hunting in your wonderful careers.....Aloha, ahui hou..

The big city news stations started using camera robotics 25 years ago, i.e.
all controlled from the control room. No more camera operators needed.
They've been cutting employees for years to cut costs.

Guy Hagi only surfs small waves...he's afraid of larger waves. Look at his
arms and shoulders...they are not developed like most surfers. Almost all
of the big wave riders are crazy haoles. The first humans to surf Waimea
Bay were all haoles from California. First person to surf Hanalei Bay was
a haole and former principal of Hanelei School. One of the best big wave
riders of all time was the principal of Sunset Elementary...Jose Angel.

In olden days...people got their news from each other, then newspapers,
the radio and eventually television. Now we will all get our news online...
from any newspaper (website) in the world. There's no need for TV news...
it's a waste of money and these on-camera newscasters should have seen this coming and begun to "retread". The local TV stations pay these people
practically nothing except for Joe Moore. They would make more money
delivering pizzas. And I'm not joking.
And BTW...we don't need automobile assembly people nor telephone operators anymore...or buggy whip makers.

Have you noticed that your Newsweek and your Sports Illustrated magazine etc. are now down to about 18 pages. "The Times They Are A Changin"...
people get their full dose of news and photographs online.
These people can all become teachers like the financial people in NYC who
have lost their jobs.

I wish KGMB would bring in Nancy Grace as their
news anchor. But then who would take care of her
twins when she's away at work?

Currently, news talent in Hawaii make next to nothing. Young reporters make from $22K to $26K... that's all! Photogs make under $15/hr. Not a business if you plan to have a family, pay a mortgage, eat... Forget retirement— that can never happen.
I tell young people interested in this business to turn around, run fast, and don't look back.

As someone who used to work for Aloha, I know how it feels to see the company you've put years into go down and many of your coworkers out of a job. I feel bad for these people... especially my friend from UH, Kristine Uyeno. I'll miss seeing her on tv.

It is bad enough to get laid off, but then to see all this played out in the newspaper, with so many nasty, and personal, comments. People, get a life. Nobody deserves to have such nasty stuff said about them. Put yourself in their shoes, and just shut up.

To all Dash, the lovely Ms Ako, and all the rest, best wishes through these difficult times. I know you will all come out ahead.
