She is our governor and represents Hawaii's interests, especially for tourism.

The State(legislature) would readily pay for a one way ticket for the Governor then call a special session to recind her right to return. The whole state legislature should take the trip on condition that no one gets lost in the Sinai.

That would be the lie her CPA would try to tell the IRS?

Is the governor already setting herself up for a future political career in Washington. Hey governor, take care of the problems affecting our state "FIRST". If she want's to go to Israel, do it on her own dime! Looks like someone has a not so hidden agenda!

It is not a secret that Hawaii has experienced an influx of visitors from Israel and the Mediterranean. This is all because of the hard work of the Governor's tourism liaison, Marsha Weinert. So there is no hidden agenda.

Alice, you need to research the facts before you speak. The State economy is better than when the previous democratic Governor was in office. Hawaii is now becoming more friendly to business and tourists. Lingle is a true leader unlike her democratic predecessor. So what if she moves on to higher office in Washington? She has the skills necessary to do a good job.

If she is there on personal business, then she needs to foot the bill. But if she is there on State business, the State should foot the bill.

You expect the people of Hawaii to believe that of all the places in the world to promote tourism, Israel is the place to be. Excuse me if I don't buy in to this gulible thinking. The agenda the governor has under the guise of promoting tourism is to promote herself as she plans her strategy to move forward with her plans to run for higher office. Yes it is clear as day that the governor wishes to have the public (nationally) view her as a candidate with an already established role with Israeli leaders. The National Republican party is setting their sights on Lingle and want's her to take advantage of this opportunity to promote "HER" as she speaks to Israeli leaders. How much more convenient would it be to the Republican party having Hawaii taxpayers flip the bill. It would be "NO" cost to them. But just one thing, we're too smart for that kind of manipulation of taxpayers. ;-)

Again, OMo is exactly right. I like akamai men like him. Lingle is such an obvious shibai. Easy to see through her.

And even more suspicious is that the governors trip coincided with the President's visit. A "COINCIDENCE" or a calculated move! Hmmmm, I wonder!!!
Perhaps some behind the scenes discussions with Lingles pal George Dubya. Oh to be a fly on the wall during that meeting. Perhaps a discussion on the governors continued support of Lehmann and the proto-type military transport ship. AKA The Superferry/Alakai and support of the contracts to build moe of these military vessels. The governors continued support of the Stryker Brigade and sonar testing by the military.
So Yes, the governor has yet again met with her pal George Dubya as he encourages her to move up the ranks in the Republican party.

Greed, make your own, and grandstanding are more banana republic characteristics. This one is more the ol’ girl network than American. Alice is right.

I just read on fridays starbulletin. lingle was in Israel as part of a panel to figue out a way to change the worlds perceptions of Israels occupation of the pals. Died babies is hard to find a positive spin, but I think AIPAC is more than capable of twisting arms in washington. The governor of HAWAII should be in hawaii solving problems for the american people not a foriegn country, especially Israel and apartheid state to boot. Nowhere in the consititution does it say we have to give Israel three billion dollars a year and billions in military hardware when our schools and highways are in bad shape. If that makes me an anti semite than l'll wear that badage proudly. I have high regards for the jewish people but I have serious problems with their zionist ways.

The really ironic part of this is that if all the money spent on the Israel-Palestine issue had just been given to the residents of both, they would be millionaires and not have to fight anymore. Sort of like our hundreds of billions to fight "terrorists" - heck, we could have made them wealthy for far less.

Lingle is on official State business with the U.S. President in Israel. As such the State is responsible for the expenses of such official travel.

Why do I feel that Linda Lingle will move to Israel, renounce her American citizenship, work on a kibbutz and eventually become the next "Golda Meir" of Israel? Is history repeating itself?

Partisan politics, lobbys and special interests are a part of the American way and serve to derail this.

Life on the kibbutz is never easy. Simpler perhaps but you'd have to work for a living.

Take care of politics in your own back yard back in North Dakota. Anyway, the State of Isreal paid according the Jewish Journal online. Really you should feel proud that she has many international ties.
