"The security system should allow travelers to feel safe on international flights without being subjected to undue harassment."

A few adjustments to the system will allow travelers to feel safe. However, to really BE safe is another matter. There are more thn a few who will not fly if the screening includes the probability of a thorough strip search including examination of body cavities. The alternative is to remove toilets from aircraft, which may have some drawbacks. Either approach will take Hawaii tourism to pre-1960's levels.

4,000,000 names are on the same list and only 4,000 are on the do not fly list. Perhaps a better approach would be to follow El Al and screen EVERY passenger with double screening on Muslims. Yes I know not every Muslim is a terrorist however it seems lately, every terrorist is a Muslim so until they clean their OWN house we will do it for them and to heck with being PC about it.

BTW, even though the bomb did not go off he still won, the world travel system will change and cost millions to do so. If you don't think so then whey do we STILL need to remove our shoes after ONE terrorist put a bomb in his?

TSA still doesn't even look inside air cargo containers being loaded on passenger flights. They TRUST the shippers to play nice nice. Even if the air cargo companies are trustworthy, the holding areas for cargo have been penetrated by unauthorized people in nearly every attempt by investigators. So the TSA system is full of holes and all they are doing is bullying the flying public, it's fun and it's easy.
hold them responsibile

How about the thousands of bottles of liquor and perfume and the all the other duty free products that get stuffed into the cargo of the airplane? They don't get any inspection either and who knows about the people who pack them - they are not government employees.

Has any government been able to stop people from doing what they want to do? In their attempts at stopping people from doing what they want to do, has there ever been a time when they achieved that goal without infringing on our freedoms? What is more important, our safety or our freedom? Because that is the central question we all hav eto ask ourselves when in comes to not only this issue, but a whole rante of issues that our government is trying to impose upon us.

TSA is a farce. Most of the TSA employees are not equipped, mentally or otherwise, to do the job at hand. You need only to take an inter-island trip to see the stupidity of procedures and how things are handled. Those things reflect stupid, inept management, and it trickles down. They don't want to hire anyone who is smarter than they are, for fear they'll lose their cushy jobs.

TSA needs to be lucky 100% of the time to stop terorists, terorists only need to get lucky once to succeed....

President Barack Obama said at Marine Corps Air Station at Kaneohe Bay that Americans "should be assured that we are doing everything in our power to keep you and your family safe and secure during this busy holiday season."

Guess what, Barry? Americans are not assured with what this administration has accomplished so far. The logic of closing the barn door AFTER the horse has already left seems to permeate up and down the chain.

Obama wants to study what went wrong--he really doesnt know---TRY THIS OBAMA---with billions of dollars we are profiling little old ladies and Us citizens---rather than profiling Muslims and people already on your lists---STUDY THAT OBAMA!

Obama Describes Nigerian As ‘Isolated Extremist,' Despite Ties to Yemen
( )– President Barack Obama, in his first public comments on the attempted bombing of a U.S. airliner traveling from Amsterdam to Detroit, described the Nigerian suspect as “an isolated extremist,” despite reports that the 23-year-old Nigerian was trained and supplied in Yemen, a country he visited twice for extended periods.
