This is enculturation. In order not to look threatening, natives shoud look petite, submissive. If natives were to look the way they formerly looked, they would be threatening and intimidating to non natives. That is why, the polynesian cultural center displays natives, not they way they need to be, which is self sufficient food providers, but rather soft demure able to operate in a highly urbanized setting. Still displaying hunter gather tendencies would scare all not aquainted with its survival function.

Yeah, many people claim to be Hawaiian , and they are not...many true native Hawaiians have died off or been intermarried...we also get "Fake Locals"...(and not the slippas)...assholes from Cali who get a tan and claim to be some race they aren't...they blow just as much as jerk locals, which I agree exists...
Hawaii also had many people from the Colorado/California area that brought lots of drugs with them, that are not native to here and Hawaiians were not using until they brought them here...but non locals also brought many advances that the Hawaiian culture did not have and now they use everyday...

true..I have lived here 2 years and neevr met a real hawaiian...they are all Asian and whiote looking.
