I guess the Spam Musubi was invented in the
late 80's? http://www.hawaiianswers.com/index.php... I'm sure if I moved to Idaho (no cut on Idaho, I drove through-lovely). I'd miss the occasional bopping into a Hawaii's McDonalds and ordering a Spam & Eggs for breakfast. |

Correction: Invented prior to the 80's.

It was a treat to have luncheon meat, chorizo sausages, and goteberg sausages (papale sausage as my uncle called it).
Spam and vienna sausages with musubis wrapped with nori w/ umoboshi inside, together with rolled up scrambled egg sliced in pieces... that was the best homemade bento. Add a can of soda that was frozen and wrapped with tin foil. Oh, this post belongs in the 50s and 60s thread too. |

There is something understated about locals
and their attachment to the Pacific Ocean (Hawaii waters) and local cuisine. I didn't realize it until I lived away on the mainland for several years. Eventually( stomach in auto-pilot), I experimented with different kinds of Polish sausage and the closest I came to Portuguese sausage was a label "Slotkowski (Polish sausage)." Fo' all you homesick mainland buggahs out there: "SLOTKOWSKI" will get you through. |
