Probably drug related. Police has ignored the drug dealing that goes on behind there for years. 24/7. I used to live behind one of those bars and I reported to the cops about the round the clock drug dealing and fights. The cops refused to follow up and had the nerve to tell me to go in to where they sell drugs so that they could verify.

I guess HPD is still turning a blind eye to this stuff.

The vermin that infest the streets late at night serve no purpose in society. Brothels, meth dens, young punks sauced up on cheap booze while packin heat are a powder keg. Drug dealers, pimps, Johns, and frustrated tough guys that wonder aimlessly in the dark shadows of Honolulu's back alleys are a drain on police resources. These havens of ill repute need to be monitored and the occassional police raid on these sqaulid $hit holes need to be implemented. Close em down, fine em, and bring back some law and order in the wee hours of Honolulu's ugly underbelly.

I agree with the death penalty for these creeps. States in the southern US are not liberal and Texas would fry this drifter. Superferry was abolished because all the liberal losers and green peace freaks from California didn't want any infringement of their views of their utopia tarnished.

It is very sad especially when these people are all trying to turn the miserable lives.

We just have to let the courts sort it out.

The death penalty is supposed to not only bring justice to our society but also to serve as a deterrent. In the latter case, this is not accomplished. WHY, you ask? Because the death penalty must go through decades of appeals, all at taxpayer expense, and also because our judicial system hides the actual carrying out of the sentence behind prison walls, with only 6 or so witnesses in attendance.

Want to change a person's mind about becoming a criminal, then make the execution public. Maybe at Bishop Square during lunch hour. Like the old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words."

One would think if he was actually attempting to "turn his life around" he would have been home with his wife and 4 children at 4 or so in the morning. That would speak volumes about his intent to "turn his life around."

these punks are the bottom of society's food chain and are the major part of Honolulu's criminals-it was probably a gang turf crime.

HPD is a passive unit that are too scared to infiltrate & bust these gangs so they allow the drug dealers to go on with their business...we hear the same old story of these punks "turning their lives around but at the end of the day with no higher education or working skills, all the know is to be a gang-banger....another Hawaiian gangster KIA.

What kind of a shootout was that? Shoot into the ground, can't hit the runaway witness? Didn't we learn anything from the OK Corral?
