With about 1/4th of the residents of our state collecting some type of welfare benefits and the rest of us paying sky high taxes to support them, there's bound to be:
1. A lot of first hand knowlege of welfare fraud that has gone undetected and unpunished.
2. A lot of frustration over this issue.

Tell us your horror stories and let's hope our politicians (and the inept agencies that are supposed to oversee this debacle) are listening.

i knew of some married couples with small kids where the dad could only get a part time job, and that was temporary, and the family was afraid to get off assistance and section 8. the husband had to "leave" the family in order for them to cope and put food on the table. it seems to be that alot of poor folks are between a rock and a hard place.

I was at the Supermarket the other day and I watched in horror as I saw the type of foods that was being bought on an EBT transaction. Poke, steaks, crab legs, a case of oysters and everything you can imagine for a feast fit for Royalty. Yes, I'm saying it sarcastically. It pisses me off when I have to work hard for my money to put food on the table to feed my Family, while some of the items that I've seen being purchased by a Welfare Recipient, being bagged with no restrictions. Yeah, they can't purchase any hot foods, gee, what a slap in us tax payers faces.

They should be like WIC and put their labels in items that they can purchase and limit their foods to staples and neccessities for survival, not for luxury feasts. Cut off those who are selling their EBT for drugs or in exchange for money, same with the WIC Recipients. I saw that one too. A Male using the WIC coupons, exit out the store, gave the items to an unknown in another car and that individual gave him cash. And then people wonder why our Keikis are not having enough food to eat, because idiots are selling it for money.

I say the state should start inspecting Welfare Recipient homes to make sure they have food in their homes for their kids. Shame on them!

Welfare fraud? In Hawaii? Oh say it ain't so. Just go to ANY low income housing, Palolo, KPT, Mayor Wrights, Halawa, Kam IV and count the BMW's, SUV's, Escalades, Lexus, or any cars less than a year old. How can these people afford those kinds of cars? As for the EBT cards, I have stood in line at Foodland to buy hamburger, spam and peanut butter while some welfare mother with gold tuna cans around her wrists is buying shrimp and steak with EBT.

I would like to know how you are going to decide on what they could and couldn't buy. Just how much political contributions (ahem) is this going to take as with WIC it's pretty easy as they only get to get a few select items (Milk, cheese, etc) and it's not meant to be their entire menu.

You have a thing against crab legs (because of price) but the fisherman is going to be upset because people aren't going to be buying his product (just picking the first thing as an example). Ok, so the fisherman complains to his congressman, the group of fishermen spend money on (ahem) political contributions and it gets put back on the acceptable list... In the mean time we create lots of government jobs and haven't cut one penny from the food stamp budget. Taxes go up, you pay more and nothing is solved.

Or they tell a friend they need money to buy laundry detergent or whatever nonfood. Given the cash, the recipient uses it to buy illegal drugs.
Next, time buy the laundry detergent or nonfood and keep the receipts!
I've watched recipients buy prime rib roasts, prawns and other expensive foods while I'm buying Macaroni and cheese. I feel terrible that I cannot buy the same expensive foods...there should be a welfare food mart they can go to like the food bank!!!
You shouldn't be spending it on my wife. She got enough "bling"

Sorry you can't swallow that hype and consider it to be BS. But, truth be known, it does happen. As a matter of fact, I've seen it happen, numerous times. I'm pretty sure there have been others that stood in line and have witnessed these purchases. I've had a friend's daughter purchase food for her Baby's party that she was planning to have. Now tell me, does the cash that they receive for their baby's birthday party get reported? Ahhhh....NO!

I never said abuse doesn't happen lolo. and if we are dumb enough to give it They are smart enough to take it. But don't be jealous of them, but the spectacular stories of steak and crablegs 3X/day and airline tickets never happened. You're both full of crap. It removes any trace of cerdibility. Repeat the wives tales and you'll lose more

Maybe full of crap to you, but it does EXIST. What's the matter? Are you one of them that do it and then, deny it? Come on, who said they ate crab legs 3 times a day? What makes you think they didn't eat it that night for pupu's? Ihepa.

So basically, you are condoning purchase abuse and having the Tax Payers pay for it? Is that what you are saying? And jealous? Stop with your retributions. Tax Payers who don't want their tax monies being abused like that have every right to be pissed off with purchases that does not entail, REASONABLE. And that is being, UNREASONABLE.

When the State is able to put a stop to UNREASONABLE food purchases, then maybe Tax Payers, such as myself won't be pissed off so much. Talk about milking the cow. People like that will milk it for everything they can.

No wonder some of their food don't last too long, because some of them are too busy buying the type of food that goes way over their budget and then, scrape whatever they can until the next month when their card is replinished. They should be taught how to shop.

Last but not the very least, the State should have Restrictions as to what should NOT be covered for EBT Purchases. As you say, it gets scanned, so, if it gets scanned? Then it should beep out of the system as reading, "rejected item, not covered for purchase." Simple.

But if you think it's ok? Then hell, every working individual who pays their Taxes should quit their job and live high as a hog. Oh nvm, we would all starve to death, because there would be no one paying their TAXES. END OF REALITY.

Resrticted EBT purchases "scanned" do exantly what you say it, rejects the item payment. And yes, there are some "scammers" at the "scanners" But not like every needy person has a good thing goin. I would never want to be placed in that situation again. I Remember in ele. school when we used to have to get "tokens" for school lunch. Everyone in the School knew (or so we thought) shame ! Never again. Now when you start to embellish the truth by making stuff up, it becomes impossible to beleieve any part of your comments. Keep it real and it will be believeable.
It is real. You just fail to see the reality of it. And you are wrong about the scanners. It scans through, all that have been mentioned in all of the above Posts that have examples. So that would make your post, to be a farse.

Obviously, you are out of touch with the grim reality of Welfare Abuse. I have yet to see the Supermarkets ask for ID's when an EBT card is used or have the Recipients picture put on it for Identification purposes.

Now, if you would only stop running around the supermarket and stand in line with your mommy, then maybe you will be able to see it for yourself. But that's ok, let's just sweep it under the rug and pretend that it does not exist and emblish more on your belief that People are actually doing right by their EBT food purchases.

Let's not bite the hand that feeds these Recipients, Hardcore.

Dumb question, if they are buying all these expensive things one day, they wouldn't have any money the rest of the month. It MAY happen on a sporatic occasion, but the fact is that it CAN'T happen all the time as they wouldn't have any credit left in their account to do it.
