Who are you, Obama's taxation advisor? Lets tax the c**p out of only the wealthiest Americans to pay for our welfare state. Think they are hiding income now? Wait.

Do you think a hundred-dollar fine hurts a lawyer or the kid of some exectutive? I saw one teenager laugh in a cop's face and say to a cop on Kapiolani, after the cop told him his insurance would go up because he was aquiring so many tickets, "Go ahead and give me a ticket, cop, my dad owns the insurance company." A 10,000 dollar fine would have taken that smirk right off Richie Riche's face.

It interests me that people are actually backing the 'safety check' law. C'mon, it's called that in an effort to scare people into actually believing that if the date is past the number on a sticker on your bumper then your somehow more of a danger to others. The reason there is absolutely no regulation is because everyone understands it's a sham; just an easy way to tax the population for an extra $15 every year.

So keep on truckin honey. Just don't go out drinking and decide to drive home in the wee hours of the morning. Cops can stop you legally if your safety check is expired and then you get busted for DUI. For a lousy $20 to get a safety check which actually is a law designed to make sure your car is insured you have bigger problems. You can spend $$$hundreds partying but cry about $20 dollars for a saftey check so you ignore it and now your up the creek without wheels.

Ben Cayetano tried to get rid of the safety inspections when he was governor, but there is too much money being made. The gas station association and YOUR legislators told him they'ed drum him out of office if he did it. For example, one station owner testified he makes 70K a MONTH from safety stickers, and he would gladly pay that much to drum the governor from office. Don't complain, you voted for the people that are screwing you every day, so just bend over and keep smiling. Keep blaming Bush and you'll hardly feel it.

^^^^^^JUST CRYING UP THERE^^^^^

This second world state known as Hawaii definitely needs someone to tell them to replace your broken headlights and non working turn signals.
While they are at it tell them that when someone flashes their lights at you they are trying to tell you that it's dark outside and you are driving without having your headlights turned on.

Exaggeration from Balls as usual. Simple to do the math. When Cayetano was mayor a safety check was $10. That is 7,000 a month devided by 30 days would be in the neighborhood of 235 safety checks a day. Service station do safety checks for their customers and really don't want to do them because of the liability issues. It is easy to see why they call Joe Balls a pathological liar. As a former owner of a service station we would rather do repair work and really did not have time to do a safety checks, but did so for our loyal customers. Another note if a car does not pass the safety check we don't get paid.

I guess workers on gas station are better than those safety engineers on a multi billion dollars auto industry. Perhaps, another state scam on your hard earned money.

Can't wait to get out of this stupid island. How does a community tolerate this rip off? Safety check? The computer in my bmw is more competent than a station inspector. Hawaii and its outdated thinking.
