Though I do not necessarily hold myself out as "someone who knows," I am compelled to offer an answer to the question of Walter Takeuchi's letter .

Yeah is the dummy who argued endlessly that unemployment was "historically high" in 2007/08 when it was just over 5%.
She continued to argue that as a way to show how bad the economy was under Bush.
Now that the unemployment rate is 10 to 12% or more, I wonder whether she thinks its "high" or "higher".
Hahahahahahahaaha.
Yeah is a silly mosquito who just flies around trying to do quick irritating jab and then run like a weak pest.
There's no there there when it comes to Yeah.
Pea brained really.
lol! No, no, no. You were arguing unemployment was at historical lows. No one was saying anything about historical highs. That's just your assumptions.

Pity.

<quoted text>Well, Mr. Libbie Sir, MY idea to fund-da-feds is a FLAT percentage tax on EVERY nickel ANYONE takes in during the year with NO DEDUCTIONS FOR ANYTHING OR EXCEPTIONS (including the Pope, if he gets income here -and- welfare freeloaders, etc) and NO OTHER TAXES ON ANYTHING, and that includes corporations, dead people's estates, gas taxes, property taxes, booze taxes, etc, etc, etc. How's THAT for being fair? I'd like to see the CORRUPT, self-serving, career CLOWNS presently masquerading as "representing" us in Clowngress (sic) jack up that all-inclusive income tax percentage and get elected again (anywhere but in Hawaii, that is)! This ASSURED BANKRUPTING of America by doling out freebees for the freeloaders in this nation from the bottom to the top, along with the blatant ripoff of the prudent and successful in this nation has got to cease!'Nuff said...
Sounds okay until that means you don't have a roof over your head or 1 square meal a day (can't afford 3.)
More better would be a flat deduction of the first $40k an individual makes (as that is about what it costs to exist in Hawaii) and anything after that is taxed 10%, flat. So, if you make $100k /year, you would owe $6k in taxes. If you make $45k, you would contribute $500. Limit welfare, section 8 and any other assistance to a fixed dollar amount or time and mandate attendance in self improvement classes to assist in making individuals employable. If an individual chooses not to participate (won't take the drug test, attend classes on time, etc.), no money.
For unemployment, instead of 3 interviews /week, reduce it to 2 and 3 days per week of public service cleaning parks, beaches, trails, etc. Include the drug tests (random or monthly) as well as mandatory skills training. Put a fixed lifetime limit on this "benefit" also.
Approximately 51% of the population pay all the taxes. The rest of the population benefits from paying nothing.
It's time to get more to participate in contributing to maintaining our roads, parks, social services, etc.

After going over everyone's comments, my vote goes to the 10th grader as being the grown up compared to the rest of you. You all sound like a bunch of cry babies pointing and blaming each other, trying to get the last word in with their "facts" or "witty" comments. And it's always the same ones. Shut up already you burned out old has-been's. With all the hot air you all produce, we should send the lot of you to the mainland so they can defrost. Or maybe you all the reason for "global Warming".

Whoa there Bozo, that's a pretty liberal proposition you're putting out there. Personally, I think there is a lot of benefits from a flat tax rate and it would probably cost the average American less than we pay now. I'm with you on most of it, but I just can't see taxing welfare benefits and public assistance. Seems bureaucratic to tax the money FROM the government. Why not just deduct it up front and avoid the hassles of having to get it back from the beneficiary?
